Beautiful book
I LOVE this book. Finished it in 2 days. The author has spun the story so beautifully. We read about the events leading up to the crash and also the story of the survivor after the crash. This book had so many emotions. I felt so bad for the person who survived, but I am glad that in the end, he found his way. To be left behind is the worst feeling. I want to say so many things about this book, but I can't put them into words, this was THAT GOOD A BOOK.Please give it a read. It won't disappoint unless you are an emotionless being.

A beautiful meditation on grieving and coping with loss
As a child, a fear loomed large over me, a fear that plagues me even now—losing my loved ones. I don’t remember when the thought seeped into me and took hold, I can only recall how it would make me feel—sheer terror! Edward Adler, our protagonist, is plunged headfirst into this wretched reality—the death of his family in a plane crash—the onset of which he didn’t even imagine in the wildest of his dreams. After all, he is only 12 at the time.Edward, or Eddie as he was known when he was only a sweet boy on the cusp of teenage, unfamiliar with bereavement, is flying with his parents and brother to Los Angeles. Sunny skies lie ahead for the family who are moving from New York, with hearts teeming with anticipation. But the plane crashes taking with it everyone on board, except one. Edward survives and is taken in by his only remaining family—his aunt and uncle, who are dealing with their own issues when they hear the news.Edward shoots to fame overnight. He’s expected to feel grateful for the “miracle” of life he has been granted. There’s nobody who considers that maybe he didn’t want this gift, that maybe it isn’t a gift at all. Edward finds a friend in his neighbour’s daughter, Shay, who is blunt and doesn’t treat him like he is someone precious. Edward finds comfort in this friendship but it’s not enough for a child mourning a loss so final and irreversible. He drifts from day-to-day, obscuring all memories of his past life, with survivor’s guilt gnawing at his heart. One night, he stumbles into a stack of letters, sent to him by the relatives of the passengers who died in the accident. A hopeful possibility unfolds for Edward, a chance at arriving at a meaningful existence for himself.Ann Napolitano’s Dear Edward is a beautiful meditation on grieving and moving on, and how to live and not just survive in the aftermath of traumatic, heart-breaking loss. There’s a lovely cast of characters whose stories are beautifully woven into the main plot. The writing hits all the right notes and I ended up shedding some tears.Definitely recommend for a cozy day spent indoors in your pyjamas with lots of ice-cream and emotions.

Beautifully heartbreaking
“Everything ends,” she says. “That’s nothing to be sad about. What matters is what starts at that moment.”Twelve-year-old Edward is the only survivor of a fateful aircraft crash that killed 191 of its passengers including his elder brother and his parents. Edward becomes a news sensation and is recognized all over the world. Bearing the grief of the loss of his family on his shoulders Edward sets out into the world. 'Dear Edward' is an extraordinary tale of an ordinary boy. The narrative alternates between the Edwards present and the few hours before the crash. The story describes the life of every passenger on the flight, a hopeful young woman, a tired military soldier, a hopeless tycoon, a free-spirited woman and so many more that give so much more depth to the story. The emphasis on the uncertainty of life is there throughout the book portrayed in different ways. The characters were beautiful and realistic. We see Edward grow through grief and confusion and regret and so much sadness. It is a beautiful story about finding yourself when everything is lost. I loved this story and it's not something I expected to but sometimes that's a good thing

excellent
Beautiful story, beautifully written. Very emotional and touching retelling of a young boy and girl surmounting the worst possible circumstances to come out alive and strong as young adults.

Dear Edward.
It’s nice but a little boring for the first half. I feel it’s sometimes repetitive. But worth it for a simple read.

Very well written
Loved it from the first page to the last. Of course there is a lot of imagination in what could have happened on the plane, the thoughts and interactions the passengers have, but who knows... I particularly liked Edward's development after the accident. There are many touching moments. Definitely worth a read.
