Can we use alfalfa hay to mulch/fertilize trees, plants and vegetables? It won't burns their roots, correct?

Oxbow’s network of hay growers follow practices of good land stewardship in order to ensure quality crops year after year, so our hay has minimal treatment of herbicides and pesticides throughout the growth cycle, with use being limited to preserving crop integrity. The withdrawal period for these applications is 30 days and most pesticides or herbicides have a 10-14 day waiting period before harvesting. These waiting periods are followed strictly by all Oxbow hay growers, ensuring the integrity and safety of all Oxbow hay crops.

None of our partner growers use any herbicides in the family of picolinic acids (i.e. clopyralids, aminopyralid, picloram, triclopyr, and several others). These herbicides are known to have longer residual presence in the soils compared to other commonly used herbicides and the chemical is not broken down through the digestive process. As such, our hay would be safe to use as mulch in the garden.

Anyone use this for poultry? I heard alfalfa is good to calm down roosters.

I don’t know anything about raising chickens but as far as alfalfa goes, this is very high quality  We use it for our bunny in moderation. It has a lot of protein.

I have used Oxbow hay for years and other brands too. From time to time, but rarely, I have found a dead insect, on one occasion a live cricket. I don't recall which brands. It's an agricultural product. In general, Oxbow hay is markedly better packaged. There is less dust and debris and fewer small particles in the bag.
