Translated between the years 1582 and 1610 and revised by Bishop Richard Challoner, this is the most accurate English translation of the Bible available today. It was the only Catholic translation of Scripture commonly in use for over 200 years and we maintain that it is still the best and safest version of the Bible in English. Translated with profound respect for every word, the beautiful style of the Douay-Rheims Bible will instill in the reader a deeper understanding of the Word of God. Annotations, references and an historical and chronological index make it convenient for study as well as meditation. Our Douay Rheims Bible is the only edition available with the words of Christ in red! Includes updated full color New Testament maps, and beautiful pictures depicting the life of Christ. Complete with Family record and Presentation pages. This beautiful Bible is available in a durable burgundy leather-soft cover, with gold edges and a ribbon marker. Review: Great Bible! - Great bible, is beautiful, and is the direct English translation from the Latin Vulgate by Catholic priests, seminaries, and professors. The language is more descriptive and beautiful. It is written in English closer to the King James so if you are not comfortable with "thous, thee, and thy" it may be a bit of an adjustment. Having said that if you get confused the internet and a NABRE version will set you straight. The book is beautiful and feels great, I love that it came with a Cross of Jerusalem on the cover. The spin is beautiful with the engrainment set in black against the burgundy. The pages are gold leafed with Jesus's words colored red. Bible includes art, maps of St. Paul's travels, and marriage/relative record sheets. Review: Lapse Catholic Finding God? - If you are a language nerd like me, you will LOVE this text. It's simply sublime. Genesis 1:2 and 2:7 are worth the price of admission alone for the rational minded evolutionists ("rational minded" here is not said with snobbery or righteousness). The notations and linkings of verses is great. Again this goes back to the language point I made. As for the linking of verses, maybe it's been that long since I've looked at a bible, but I don't remember seeing that before.. The definitional index of sacraments and key teachings (ahh purgatory, the one major thing I remember going crazy about at bible study years ago...) and their validity in text is simply an indispensible tool. The photos are beautiful, though the "maps" are criminally undetailed. The timeline is interesting and quite useful as well. The list of popes, prayers, and text listings of feast days, and gospels for holy days makes this an absolutely perfect companion to have as you drag yourself back to mass for the first time in years, or sit in adoration for an hour. I'd suggest the 2 tone "stand firm in the lord" bible case for this. The burgundy, while not my preferred color (literally I ordered the first DR I found that also delivered next or same day), gives the text a proper dignified, and decidedly holy casing. The text size is just right. One minor gripe is there's only one ribbon (I remember catholic bibles as having approximately 35 ribbons all of various colors for all sorts of things), but it is a nice color. And of course, the translation. You simply cannot go wrong reading a Vulgate translation, as I've noted. If nothing else, as I said before, the translation itself is worth the purchase. The text reads so completely differently and is much richer. Also lends itself to some different spellings due to the fact that Latin lacks some written notation for certain sounds (so Noah is Noe and Sarah is Sara and Ham is Cham. My inner linguist drools.) Oh, and "Revelations"? Nope, it's listed here as "The Apocalypse"

Great bible.
The wording has a much more accurate and rich meaning. Other bibles have different wording that can change the meaning somewhat. The Douay Rheims is the most accurate. I love this bible. A few pictures in the back. At the front is information about ST Benedict and his medal. A page for family register. Births. Marriages. A page that says presented to that you can fill out. The print is small. With my trifocals I have to hold the bible close to my face. The notes are even smaller. Guess I should order the large print. The reviews on the large print Douay Rheims is strange. A few people are reviewing for a completely different bible. The NKJV. Am thinking of ordering the larger print. I will read this one and see how it goes with small print. This bible is worth your time and money. The Douay Rheims has become my favorite. I don't want to stop reading it. Hard to put down. I never had a bible that made me feel that way. The didache is a close 2nd. But the Douay Rheims is my favorite of all. And I've read several bibles. Purchase this one. You won't regret it. And by the way Jesus words are in red.

For Clarity and Directness in Communicating Catholic Teaching in Matters of Faith and Morals
The language is clear and direct and communicates more clearly the meaning in the text. To instances of clarity are found in the 1st chapter of The Gospel According to Saint Luke. These example are: Luke 1:37 Luke 1:28 In Luke (1:37) the Douay-Rheims translation reads, 'Because no word shall be impossible with God'.Other translations in other Bibles read 'For nothing will be impossible with God'. The Douay-Rheims translation speaks more clearly and directly to the infinite power that is God's word i.e. whatever God declares becomes reality. Other translations that read that '...nothing will be impossible with God' are inaccurate in that there are things that are impossible with G_D i.e. God cannot cause someone to believe in HIM if that someone chooses to reject HIM i.e. it IS impossible for God to violate human free-will. Another instance of the Douay-Rheims' clarity and directness is The Gospel of According to Saint Luke (1:28). The Douay-Rheims translation reads, 'And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. Other translations read, 'The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.' Again, the Douay-Rheims version speaks clearly and directly to The Blessed Virgin Mary's state of grace or condition of having no sin even before the conception of her Divine Son Jesus Christ (the enfleshed WORD and SON OF GOD) whose redemptive act on the cross would render human persons capable of receiving a state of grace. Other translations, with the clause '...you who are 'highly favored' is more ambiguous and fail to communicate the truth that The Blessed Virgin Mary was without sin i.e. was Immaculately Conceived. So, for those who care about divinely revealed truth i.e. Catholic teaching concerning matters of faith and morals, the Douay-Rheims version is THE best English translation of sacred scripture. The syntax, or the grammatical arrangement, of words is different because of the use of an older form of English. As a result you, as a reader, you have to shift grammatical gears. But once you make that shift you will find that the Douay-Rheims is a joy to read.

Different Cross Received
Not quite what I was looking for or expected but I ain’t complaining I loved it with the Crusaders/ Jerusalem Cross However after reevaluating after a few weeks, I requested an exchange to see if I can actually get the Saint Benedict Cross as it’s displayed in the pictures. It holds more meaning imo.

Was looking for this Bible for some time
Beautifully bound. As far as the book itself: hard to fault the word of God. 11/10

Us Catholics can have nice bibles too!
As far as Catholic bibles go, this is some of the best value you can get. The typesetting and printing are very good and the imitation leather cover feels supple and pleasant. Please note that the binding seems to be glued, not sewn, but after having read through the entire Bible it's holding up just fine. The translation is scrupulously faithful to the Latin and feels duly solemn and reverential, and the words of Christ are in red letters. All in all, it is a thoroughly Catholic translation with the look and finish of a nice Protestant bible for a very reasonable price.

Love it
I wanted to buy the Baronius Press copy of the same Douay-Rheims but opted for this one as couldn't find a pocket copy of the Baronius Press for a reasonable price (the Baronius Press books seem to increase in value expediently when out of print and for good reason!). This one however, the TAN books copy, is a very good alternative in my opinion. Text is a good size, nice colour pictures at the back of events of our Lord's life, list of Popes (yes it's a Catholic Bible) up to Pope Benedict XVI, and has a basic history timeline of biblical events corresponding to the years and a couple of coloured maps. It has the bits when our Lord speaks in red which is a nice edition. The imitation leather is really nice and has a good feel to it, looks good when put up on the shelf (in a special spot mind you) with the St. Benedict medal design. I would indeed recommend this Bible.

A must have Bible for every christian
The Bible arrived on time and package was very good. This Bible is one of the best english translations, just as the kjv is for most protestants, this Bible is for catholics. The Fonts are readable and the Words of Christ are in Red colour fonts. If you want a solid translation of the Bible from a literal perspective vs equivalency perspective, this is THE Bible to have.
