This is my first attempt at sashiko and the thread worked very well. IMPORTANT TIP: you can't pull one end of the thread from the skein like you would for Western embroidery floss or twine. Instead, you pull the thread out of the paper wrapper, look for a short thread that is securing the loop, and cut the loop there. Yes, cut it! That will divide the loop into lengths of thread just right for stitching. You can then put the thread back through the paper label if you like, and loosely braid it, or loop it over a ring -- in any case, you'll be in a position to pull individual threads from then on.
