It is not worth $17. Better off using the blue masking tape.

Will this tape leave residue on paint if used for automotive detailing (compound and polish)?

This tape is GREAT! Will not leave anything behind. It is perfect for separating different paint colors while spraying, also it bends perfectly into curves ( depending on it's width)

Will this stick to fabric?

It will stick slightly. But not permanent. It sticks way better to solid surfaces.
