They run small in chest and the waist. It depends if he wants it really free and more baggy. These shirts in most movies are used baggier. I would definitely at least go up a size; especially with him being tall and slender. They aren’t very long either. If he wants it to flow more I might even buy two sizes in a med and a large to see the fit he may like. Hope this helps:)
