How do you store the actual chess pieces?

What do you recommend for the mat to go with this set? Especially for use on pavement...

For quick set up a nylon mat lays out fast-great for parties and so forth. If you want to leave it out for days or weeks at a time a mesh plastic snap together style mat or chessboard would be preferable. The hard surface is ideal for plastic mats.

Is the set weather proof?

Yes. It's good for outdoor or indoor use. Rain and snow are fine as well. The polyurethane plastic is quite durable and designed for a wide range of temperatures. The pieces are stable in light winds but in medium and stronger winds you might weight the bases with sand or water.
