Audio was just ok, story was a good starting point
Let's start with the story (4 out of 5 stars). I think this was more on the fast-paced side, a lot of story happened in a short amount of time/not a large book. Not a lot of world-building, which in this instance I think took away from the story because with high fantasy/fae/PNR series, world-building is so important. I did think Zakara is a pretty BA character, stubborn and strong. I liked her instantly haha. The guys, not so much! We get to slowly learn about them, some harder to read than the others. I did think the bed scene was pretty funny (I was surprised with the amount of funny/comedic relief scenes in this series). Aaaaaand don't even get me started on the sexy scene with a certain broody fire fae! He is definitely my favorite after book 1, but the others will win me over in future books 😊In terms of the narration, I thought it was just ok (3 out of 5 stars). I didnt think the narration was spectacular, but it wasn't bad either. I do wish there was a male narrator because it would have elevated it. I don't think Dara's male voices were very strong, compared to other audiobooks I have listened to. I think in this instance it had a lot of potential with audio and it just didnt spark for me. That being said I have finished the series because the story drove me to listen on Scribd all back to back haha.

One of my long time favorite high fantasy series!
I stumbled upon this series years ago, reading it first via KU, and then buying it for my own library. I've since read it multiple times and always enjoy myself but I just realized I never actually left a review on this epic high fantasy tale.So what do I love so much? In particular I love the fmc - Zakara (aka Kara) Storm, a fierce and feisty heroine who is equal parts snarky, funny, brave, scared, humble, curious. She is thoroughly entertaining as our leading lady and her one liners are memorable. I have so many highlights in this series.Add to that three completely swoon worthy guys, especially Cardio (brooding protective scarred warrior with a sweet side), some seriously intense sexual chemistry and tension that kicks off right from the first chapter, and a gripping and fascinating, action packed plot. Yes please!I read (and reread) this for the humor, for the steamy chemistry, for the exciting action and suspense. It's pretty much a perfect blend of everything I love.Ratings (out of possible 5)Character development: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐World building: 🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎Romance: 💓💓💓💓Heat/steam: 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥Romantic pace: Medium burnAction: 🍿🍿🍿🍿Suspense: 💣💣💣Drama: 👀 👀 👀 👀Dark: Nothing noteworthyTriggers: Nothing comes to mindPOV: Largely told from fmc's perspective but some chapters from the guys in further books of the seriesEnding: The series is fully released so no need to worry about cliffhangers.

4 Stars, worth a read
Okay, first off the cover is gorgeous which is what caught my attention.Next, this book is short. It’s to the point, skips over the world building, but it’s short enough that technically it’s not needed in this book. Future books it probably will, and from reviews in future books I read the world building does happen. So there’s that. The book gets right to the point. There isn’t much relationship building. The girl is tough, the guys are described and then it moves forward. Again, with how quickly everything moved it’s not necessarily needed. But would be nice to have more depth to the relationships. This book starts of fast paced, it starts off with action and honestly you don’t get bored. If you’re a fast reader you can get the book finished in an hour or so. If you take your time, probably 2 hours. All in all, I did actually really enjoy it and already ordered the second book to see what’s happening.

5 Beautiful Stars
I totally dig this book.Zakara is a badass. It’s that simple. She’s strong and beautiful. She stays true to herself, and not once did she change herself after meeting these men. Yeah, she didn’t pretend like she usually does, but that just she was real.So that teaser for the next book already has my blood a-boiling just thinking about them double crossing her. So Rio best be looking out for her.Rio- The eerily beautiful scarred twin. With his rough exterior and tough attitude. He’s got walls. I like him.Daxdyn- The handsome modelesque twin. He’s more open and kind. But still very mysterious.Ryder- The half-human of the three. I like him just as much as the others and I can’t wait to get more from his character. The world building is superb. I’m beyond interested to see where this plot takes us.

Fast paced and sexy Fantasy read
I very much enjoyed this book. It sucks you in quickly and keeps you hanging on until the end. The main character is so spunky, fun, and kicka$$ you can't help but love her. The guys are all hot, hot, hot. Each of them are so unique and sexy in there own way. I love how this story is fast paced and you start off with action right away. Clearly this world and character are well thought out and it shows in the writing. The only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars as that it was so short. I would say this is a medium burn RH it definitely has some sexy times going on.

Sword fighting in the morning
Ok so Kara is a drifter? Running around the country side stealing shit. Sooooo, restless? Until she hears a story about a treasure of sorts? And goes to steal it. This book frustrated me and I don't know where to start to explain why it did so. I'm thinking I missed some sort of prophecy about a "human" with fae marks that are different from others. And some world building and background information would be good. It was there but lacking. What's her role now? Why did they sell her out? Three dudes with plenty of heat, no romance. Just a suck and swallow and a hit and run. Not that that's bad because Rio... Mmmm, *lip smacking*. I did love the time spent in Lady Ivory's care. That wake up scene was funny. So I'm thinking I may just get book two for two reasons: One because this was incomplete to me. And two because the MC wasn't dumb as hell! Maybe let her guard slip a little but not dumb and whiny... which is a win.

Great potential but too fast paced for my liking.
I feel like every scene could have been expanded and explained better. I found myself very confused throughout the book. More descriptions and more character development please. It's a shame because this had a lot of potential.

Hmm..?
This series has received so many positive reviews but after reading it myself, I can’t help but wonder if I read the same book as everyone else?First of all, the cover art is impressive and the concept behind the story is good BUT how the story plays out at times was strange and often questionable which stopped me from really enjoying it.At the beginning of the book we find our heroine (Zakara) climbing ‘hair’ to the top of a tower. Sound familiar? Instead of finding Rapunzel though, she finds the long hair tied off and attached to a Skelton. What the…? She then finds three handsome men who have magical powers but who have been kept imprisoned for the past year. Question: Why was there hair to climb in the first place if the tower was a prison? After helping the men escape they then convince her to help them get back to where they came from. She agrees by offering to take them to the nearest port so they can catch a ship back to...I think the land of Fae?As the story progresses, we find out the Zakara herself is not all she appears to be and that the very place the men come from is the same one she escaped from many years ago, when her father sacrificed his life to save her from being discovered by the evil Queen so to go back there would be suicide…right? With this in mind, you think that once they reach the port, Zakara would drop them off and get the hell out of there (you know self-preservation and all that) but instead with a token protest, she readily jumps on the ship knowing full well the dangers she will be facing. This part is near the end of the book so you may think it’s because of the bonds Zakara has formed towards the men making her reluctant to leave them I mean why else would she willing follow them to a place where the people there want nothing more that to see her kind dead unless of course she has developed deep and meaningful feelings for them right? Wrong! The relationship building needed a lot more work and the male characters seem only discernible by the levels of conflict each of them experienced with Zakara throughout the story. It leaves on a cliff-hanger that had me asking myself, what the..? When they arrive at their destination, her and the men are chained up immediately with no explanation however, they don't remove Zakara's weapons so she uses her sword to not free herself or her men, instead she attacks her men first and then her captors? Apparently she developed amnesia on the ship and forgot that she voluntarily went with them and knew she was heading into trouble? So strange.
