Q: What are the min & max stop lengths? Can it strip less than 5mm off the end of a wire?

The stop can actually be set all the way down to 0 mm, but for practical purposes 3 mm is about as short as it will strip. Once you get less than that, the blades won't catch the insulation. Also note that at very short lengths some insulation will not separate cleanly leaving a saddle-shaped strip. When I need a precise short strip length (e.g. crimping small connector pins) I always strip longer and trim the bare wire to length. The max stop length is 17 mm, unless you physically remove the sliding stop - then you could reach 22 mm.

Q: Can these strip fiberglass insulation like for thermocouple and high temp wire?

This stripper is NOT well suited for insulations types other than thermoplastic. The jaws on this work by cutting on two sides and then pulling the insulation away and "tearing" the remainder of uncut material. They work great on MTW, THHN and so on but since they do not cut all the way around I would not recommend them for other insulation types. Where these excel is when you have lots of wires to strip and want a consistent strip length quickly. I like them for wiring I/O cards because I can strip the same length over and over which is particularly useful when using ferrules.

IT IS AUTOMATIC WIRE GAUGE SELECTION. You can set the tension on it to adjust for different insulation types

Q: Are there any tricks to avoid tearing off a few wire strands? I do that once in a while.

Try adjusting the pinch tension by sliding the orange tension control on the jaw. You want enough pinch to remove the jacket, but not so much that it cuts the wires. If you have a very fine mult-strand wire, you will probably still cut a few, but it won't affect the integrity of the wire.
