Learning curve but patience will be rewarded
There is a definitely a learning curve of 1 month but in the long run, Suunto Ambit is sturdier and longer lasting than Garmin Fenix. After using a Garmin, I tried this one for about 2 weeks and hated it so much, I went back to Garmin. But then my Garmin broke, so I had to use the Ambit. And I stuck with it for a month, read the user's manual and went through all of the Ambit's functions per user's manual. I also patiently went through and tried all the Movescount.com features. And now I'm a Suunto convert.PROS1. Customize your displays when you exerciseGarmin has very little customization options whereas with Suunto, you can customize to your heart's desire. When I run, I wanna see my lap pace and lap distance only. Then the next set of displays, I wanna see the total distance. Then the next set is the clock. Then the next is the heart rate. If I wanna do a long slow run, I can set it up as a separate activity with displays as simple as distance only then next display is time only.2. Not buggyDon't get me started on Garmin fenix 2.3. Sturdy build4. GPS fix is super fast5. Display is very readableCONS1. Customization can only be done through a PCVery annoying. If I change my mind and wanna do 2-km laps instead of 1-km laps, I can't do it on the watch. I have to set it on Movescount.com then sync my watch through PC.2. The non-OEM replacement strap is USD 20 from far, far away3. You can't delete 1 exercise log on your watch.Yep, you can only delete all through a Force Firmware Update.4. Doesn't go into USB mass storage when attached to PC.

Simply terrific....
I've been running for 40 years and have run about 77,000 mi, or more than 3-times around the Earth. I've been to about 50-countries and lived in Canada, US, Mexico, England, Denmark, Syria, and now China. I've used this watch wherever I am. It locates satellites quickly, produces attractive maps, and logs actives smoothly and completely. I also weight-train a little, and ride bicycle. I use watch functions to keep track of these too. I've been using logging devices since they first became available, and this Sunnto is the best by far.

Not worth the price tag
This is a $500 watch. For people who need a watch to wear on their left hand, I found that I was always pressing the middle button the right side of watch when I was exercising. This was very, very annoying. Also, the buttons on this watch were not 100% responsive. Maybe 1 in 10 times, on each button, the UI wouldn't respond. Once again annoying and not something you expect from a $500 watch. Otherwise, excellent display, great features. The heart rate monitor was great and was always picked up by the watch. GPS was fickle, sometimes it would pick up multiple satellites within 60 secs, sometimes it would take over 10 minutes -- and this was after having picked up satellites in the same location previously. Two workmates just purchased Garmin and Nike GPS/HRMs for around $200-$250. They do the same job and are less bulky. I don't think I'll be buying Suunto again.

Best GPS watch I have seen this far.
I have tried my share of watches with heart rate monitors. I acquired the Suunto AMBIT to get GPS coverage and also heart rate information. In the past I have resorted to use of a cell phone with an ANT+ adapter to get map information combined with heart rate data. The Suunto is a fairly thick watch, but also highly rugged. I have used it as my regular watch for close to two month. I run 3 times per week and I have to charge the watch 1-2 per week. The display is easy to read and the functionality is intuitive. The information provided by the watch is really nice and very helpful to track your progress, your routes, ... I would love the watch even more if they had the functionality to upload running data to sites such as RunKeeper or Endomondo. RIght now you can upload but only to the Suunto site which is covered by a much smaller community. The time to first fix (when it acquires GPS localization) is typically 1-2 minutes and it is quite slow if you run in a metropolitan area due to limited views of the sky. Other than this a fantastic watch.

Suunto Ambit
Fantastic watch. Takes an Internet search (YouTube reviews are best) and some practice to learn how to use the watch fully. Once you've got the hang of it, then the watch comes into its own. Planning routes, navigation, linking to Facebook and Flickr it creates your own blog. Also using it becomes addictive, you just want to carry on and record you next move, my exercise has increased a lot since owning the watch. I didn't buy the heart monitor which I am glad, as I have enough information to get obsessive about.
