BLUE SCREEN shut down guaranteed if you gett one of the bad ones
I've been using Edimax for my computer and computers I have repaired. I tried this because of the dual band and the price as an experiment. Sat on it for quite a while then tried it today to see how it performed and to possibly buy another one.I am using Win7 pro 64 system on a DAW and want to see if I can increase speed transferring to my main computer for further processing. The instructions are relatively clear and have pretty good illustrations so I though "what a snap" like Edimax. But the disk wouldn't 'run' and required digging around inside to find the file for win... not buried but it's nicer when it self starts. The windows look like the screen shots on the instructions though there are some different words used in the book relative to the screen (no biggie, though disconcerting).Once the program is installed the instructions are to insert the mini dongle and the immediate result was blue screen. I pulled the USB device out and restarted (blue screen on this computer is new) - used REVO uninstaller to clear out all installed branches and started from scratch. Same thing the second time so I did the REVO route again and tried just plugging the device in without the software (this is referenced in the instruction).... immediate blue screen and shut down, for the last time.Packed it up and was ready to trash it as a $15 experiment gone awry ... but then I figured I should give some comments here to help others. Other than some software failings the problem seem to be in the device itself. Taking a guess a blue screen upon connection would point toward a short... many of these products are not tested to improve profits or just shipped as known defective parts hoping that the customer won't react other than throwing it away. If I'd tried it as soon as I received it, it would have been returned. So, in summary the functioning of the product seems to be intermittent.... if that's okay for you; go for it. A caution though -- test it as soon as you get it and back up your computer and do set a restore point just in case....It's too bad that this doesn't work but for further information I've used Edimax for over five years without any issues what so ever. Not dissing this company just saying if you want dependability you might cautiously look elsewhere.

Works great, configuration may be required.
Not exactly plug n play with my Win 10 tablet and it's USB 3.0 port. It did work shortly after plugging the adapter in BUT it was limited to under 100Mbps. My connection peaks around 240Mbps wired and just under 200Mbps WiFi, as measured by my laptop running speedtests while on wired and WiFi connections, respectively. So, I ran the setup that was on the included CD and installed the utility. Using the utility I was able to open the adapter and it started showing around 190Mbps WiFi. Satisfactory for what I wanted. Also there are pinholes that actually light up BLUE when there ia link activity.Pictures show it connected to the Orico USB 3.0 hub that I also bought and then a closer view of the adapter and one of the 'pinholes'. 5 stars because the price is great and the adapter delivers-you just need to configure it.

Wow!!! Can it get any worse???
Purchased this wanting to take advantage of the 5g connection my ISP has - installed it on my laptop (following the enclosed instructions) and boy does this suck!!! First - USB didn't want to recognize the dongle. After removal/install of 1/2 dozen tries - Windows found the hardware. Then the real fun began. This little piece of junk completely killed my wifi connection. Went from 52 Mbps to 0.9 Mbps. Removed it and voila!! Had high speed again. This is - without a doubt - the biggest waste of money I have ever purchased on Amazon. Best use??? Dumpster fodder. Can I rate this lower than a single star???

Installed on Windows 10 laptop - easy and reliable
When I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 a few months ago, the wireless adapter would lose the wireless connection. This would occur every couple of hours which was a nuisance - but then I would lose a connection when performing something important which was intolerable. Updating the drivers... reverting to older drivers ... nothing corrected the issue. So fast forward to this decision. Amazon has become inexcusable in how they allow BS reviews from people who get products for free - which causes legitimate consumers like us to waste so much time reading reviews to filter out these junk reviews. This product category has tons of these reviews - this one only had 1 "free" review. Luckily this device has performed well and is very small. Installation was very simple.
