2001 chevy silverado 4.3 V6 shallow pan with 16 holes. this is one job you dread doing! its fairly simple and a little messy. google " 4l60e transmission and filter change" and watch some youtube for tips. here's my shadetree experience, 1) latex gloves, lots of cardboard, shop towels, trash bag and oil catch pan. 2) socket set, flathead, pry bar, mallet or hammer and block of wood. ramps make it a lot easier! 3) i striped my drain plug, its a common problem, so this i what i did. loosen bolts and take out the bolts from 1 rear corner, let drain. when done take all bolts out except 1 middle bolt rear and 1 passenger side front. leave both loose where you can get a 1/4' clear tube in pan and siphon out the remaining oil, go in from the front drivers side. works best when tranny is WARM. takes about 1 hour for ~4.5qts in pan. 4) clean inside pan with paint thinner. remove gasket with razor. small brass brush helps get gasket residue off pan. 5) put gasket under something heavy and flat couple of days before install. lay gasket on clean rim start all 16 bolts, thread them up at least 1/4". install filter followed by pan. start bolts by hand using extension and had tighten. using 1 hand go in a crisscross pattern and tighten, 1 HAND! DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN, you'll smash the gasket and get leaks. 6) follow manual for fluid and capacity for make and model. check after driving for ~30 min, park, leave running and check fluid level. check often for a couple of days on level surface. don't be cheap on this one, i've got 190k on mine, it will be the last filter. perfect fit! i did not replace the filter seal, mine was still in great shape. i refilled 5 qts of valvoline dex/merc in my ole tranny, hell it lasted this long, why not. 07 and up will be dex 6. wally and amazon carry both.

The filter caused the dipstick to pop out And cause so much ATF to squirt all over the engine causing rough shifting in the transmission, my car is 2007 Chevy Tahoe z71. Had to buy a new part. Wont recommend this to anyone
