This is an excellent juicer!
I have been using this juicer for 2 years and would not buy another type or model. Like all good equipment, it does what it is intended to do when used properly. I juice carrots, apples, beets and beet greens, kale, collard greens, ginger, celery, cucumbers, pumpkin cubes, and summer squash...my preferences. I usually make a 1/2 gallon each morning for my wife and myself. Some procedures will make it easier to use.1. Be aware that juicy fruits, ie. citrus, melons, mangoes do produce a mushy pulp that will tend to clog the fine filter screen. You have to be careful by checking the screen often to make sure that the pulp is not clogging the screen and the drain opening.2. When juicing vegetables that have very dry pulp, it tends to make fluffy pulp that will fill the pulp container. You need to check it to make sure that there is room in the container. I use my fist to push it down or else it will build up in the top.3. I have a blade key but never use it. Installing the blade snug is adequate and it functions perfectly. When removing it for cleaning I stop the filter with my right hand by putting a little pressure on it and because it is "keyed" to the motor, the blade can easily be removed by applying a little downward pressure and unscrewing it.4. The stainless steel filter cleans very easily using the palm side of your fingers under running water or using a kitchen brush. The filter is very thin stainless steel. It is imperative that it is handled carefully so as to not damage it causing creases or dents in the filter screen. If it gets damaged, it will cause imbalanced pulp ejection from the screen. When this happens, the screen frame will rub against the top as it spins and cause more damage....You just have to be careful. Replacement screens are easy to obtain and cost about $10 when needed.5. My previous Jack LaLanne juicer had plastic parts that did not hold up in the top rack of my dishwasher...they deformed and had to be replaced. It is no big deal to wash them by hand and let them air dry.6. As has been stated by others, I line my pulp bin with 2 plastic shopping bags. Because I juice so much at a time, it is easier to pull out the first full bag, tie the top and continue filling the second bag. Using bags keeps the bin very clean.7. Do not wait longer than 15 to 20 minutes to clean the juicer parts after juicing. As the pulp dries out, it will make it a lot more difficult to clean the screen and parts. (This is true for any juicer.)8. Just to clarify, this is a centrifugal juicer, not a juice press. It will leave some juice in the pulp. I have used a muslin cloth and hand wrung the pulp after juicing 1/2 gallon juice (a lot more than the average usage) and was able to recover 8 more ounces of juice, but it is a lot of work. Because my wife was ill, I was juicing 3 apples, 4 pounds of carrots, 1 cucumber, 1 large beet with greens, 1/2 head of celery, a large slab of cabbage, and squash. For 16 ounces of juice the amount of juice in the pulp would be about 2 ounces. I considered purchasing a Norwalk juicer and press like my Dad used to have but that was more than $2500.00 at today's price. I am very happy with the Jack LaLanne juicer.9. The advertisements say that the pulp can be used for soups and baking. I found this to be false. It did not work at all for soup or baking because it was too dry. There is also very little nutritional value left in the pulp...it is all in the juice. My best use for it is to spread it in my garden as mulch.10. Finally, you should notice that the juice collection cup is relatively short. There is about 4 1/4 inches under the spout. I use a 2 cup plastic measuring pitcher to collect the juice and it works great.

Insights into the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer
Had to return unit to Amazon due to a defect in the metal blade (would get stuck after juicing and require a screwdriver to pry loose and clean). Also, the area that collects and drains the juice is plastic, so the unit is not all stainless steel. Don't know the type of metal the blade is, but it seems like stainless steel. After a lot of research of various juicers and Amazon reviews, ordered a replacement yesterday. Went with an Omega model J8006 (the Amazon best seller in masticating juicers). Spins at a much lower rpm so reviewers say it extracts a lot more juice and nutrients. The pulp from the Jack Lalanne unit is wet; the Amazon reviewers of the Omega claim the pulp from the Omega is very dry due to better juice extraction in masticating juicers. Only time will tell.UPDATE: Jack LaLanne Power Juicer vs. Omega J8006 Juicer. With the Power Juicer, I could get 3 cups of juice and clean all parts within 5 minutes; the Omega Juicer takes 20-plus minutes to get the same 3 cups. The much faster spinning (3,600 rpm) centrifugal disc in the Power Juicer kicks butt compared to the slow turning (80 rpm) auger in the Omega. The Power Juicer has a 3" feeding chute vs. the Omega's is only one and a half inches, so you need a lot of prep time to cut the veggies and greens down to a size that fits the Omega chute. Before, only really long carrots needed to be cut with the Power Juicer. Extracted pulp is actually wetter in the Omega compared to the Power Juicer (so much for claims that masticating juicers extract more juice). The Omega at $300 is three times the price of the Power Juicer at $100. The Omega's only claim to fame is the supposed advantage of producing more healthy juice (more nutrients, etc.) by gradual grinding at the much slower 80 rpm (compared to the 3,600 rpm buzz saw of the Power Juicer).

Best juicer !
After trying many different juicers I realized this is the very best. I highly recommend this juicer.

Good blender, no key
This is a very good blender, I was replacing the one I had before, but they didn’t include the “key” to unlock or tighten the blade to the device. I had to use a pair of scissors to lock it in place and to unlock it.They sent me the key!! Yay!

Good Starter
I bought this to replace the exact same model I have had for years in plastic. It's still going strong but I wanted to get away from the plastic so I ordered this one.The juicer is a good starter at a affordable price. Had they shipped the right model, I would continue to enjoy it. It's fast, cleans up quickly and doesn't take up a whole lot of room on the counter. And it's quiet. Lifetime warranty on the motor. Three stars because the pulp could be drier, Juice left behind results in higher cost for more for produce.Paramount is cleaning the unit immediately after use. Putting a palstic bag in the pulp collection bucket makes clean up a snap.My problem is not with the juicer but rather the shipper. Shipping was quick. Opened the box to find a black plastic version, not the model I ordered. Furious. I had a fridge full of produce. Returned the item at my expense. Requested the correct item or a refund including the return postage. Kitchenista's opted to refund including postage very quickly. Seems suspect as to whether they really had the stainless steel one in stock. Perhaps they thought I'd settle or wouldn't notice. Wrong. So, I will not purchase from this company again. Now that I have researched juicers, I'm opting for a higher yield with better quality juice.YouTube's John at Discount Juicers.com is a great way to help decide which juicer is best for you. He compares them all with juice off's giving you invaluable information to make your choice wherever you may purchase your juice.
