Howard was a weirdo
This book doesn't pull any punches. It is such a pity to see a guy with such talent make a prisoner of himself. To think how much more he could have achieved had he led a more normal lifestyle.

Howard Hughes: The Hidden Years
This was very helpful information for a book I am writing that features Howard Hughes at one point, in my chapter called "Mormon Mafia."

Brilliant book
I found this book after reading the Clifford Irving hoax book about Hughes fake diaries. Howard Hughes was a truly amazing man and this book gives you a behind the scenes look at his empire/private life in his later years that was protected by his huge and expensive secrecy machine. I especially enjoyed the bits about his personality, how is genius was also extremely close to the insane and OCD aspects of his personality. This book was the first real true Howard Hughes back ground book by a man who was actually there. It discusses the truth, lies and media/public obsession with Hughes. For me, it was fascinating how a man who had it all, beyond anyone's dreams, could decline into what he did, yet still manage (all be it only through his morman aids) midnight business deals and meetings. I could not help but feel that towards the end it was the morman mafia controlling Hughes, using his drug addiction and OCD to keep him isolated for their own gain. Hughes had billions of dollars of USA government war business, and was involved in top secret planes and projects, many probably, that are still secret to this day.The book may be old, but for me it started an interest in Hughes and i now have read 6 books about him (currently reading the book about the battle for his money after he died). A brilliant read, i could not put it down.

What a fantastic read! What a bizarre gentleman. It's enthralling because his life was so ridiculous in so many respects!
