Parapsychology: Ghosts and Hauntings

This is an excellent introduction to parapsychology as it provides the novice with the vocabulary and overview of an expert to get started learning the field. There is a lot of jargon when it comes to paranormal research and Dr. Robert Young helps the reader get the terminology straight by explaining the fine distinctions in different aspects of the discipline. Who knows about the distinction between ghosts and apparitions? I didn’t, but this book explains it. How about the overlapping similarities between the described experiences of those who allege to have interacted with apparitions and others who say they were visited by aliens? The similarities had never occurred to me until I read Dr. Young’s book. This work is both comprehensive in its encyclopedic catalog of the subject as well as being full of anecdotes that tie the theory to real-world practice on the ground. The first half of the book is an academic overview of the discipline of parapsychology, and the second half provides case studies based on hundreds of investigations of allegedly haunted sites that were conducted by the author. The material is fascinating, and the text is superbly written. “Parapsychology: Ghosts and Hauntings” by Dr. Robert Young offers serious value to the reader. I bought a copy, read it in a week, and was so satisfied that I immediately ordered another copy as a gift. Highly recommended.

This book could be a textbook to introduce one into the field of parapsychology–except that it is also very interesting and engrossing.It contains excellent chapters to introduce one to the field–such as the history of parapsychology, remote viewing, parapsychology and UFOs, ghosts, hauntings, apparitions, dream visitations, timeslips, poltergeists, mediumship, and psychic fraud. It also contains good chapters on the scientific study of parapsychology such as the experiments by Dr. Rhine and many newer researchers, and studies of individual PSI ability. Following this it delves into many case files, which are fascinating by themselves.

Combining sound observation and extensive personal experience, Robert Young has provided an educational and entertaining primer of paranormal investigations. An informative textbook for anyone interested in parapsychology and life after death. This book is a 'must-read' for anyone who believes their house is haunted.

I can thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who is seriously interested in Parapsychology. It provides in-depth knowledge of theory and investigative techniques. It gives thought provoking evidence for thinking ‘outside the box’. Anyone who is seriously interested in all aspects of the Paranormal, subjectively and objectively should take time to read this book. It includes theory (past and present) plus information on Parapsychology and UFO’s, Hauntings, Time-slips, poltergeists, Apparitions and also includes very interesting case studies and investigations. A very valuable reference book.

Fairly interesting but needed a thorough proofread/edit before being published. An index would have been helpful, too.
