Pungent Pepper Flavor & Aroma Once Grated
Probably bought some of this at a spice specialty shop and didn't do anything with it for a long time. The Indian Long Pepper has a hard, twisty exterior that doesn't fit a normal pepper mill. The suggestion was to use a mortar & pestle to first break the Long Pepper up into smaller pieces & then grind it finer. This works but sometimes the pepper jumps out of the mortar bowl. Still, once ground this gives a pungent, aromatic, intense pepper flavor.I have since bought a black "Microplane Manual Spice Mill" grater. This grater is simple, but elegant in design, and even has a storage compartment, separate from the grating compartment, at the top for ungrated spice. Works fine! Put a few of the Long Pepper sticks in the grater, twist clockwise, and viola... fine, freshly ground, pungent, pepper, without a mess.

More Potent and Smooth Than Standard Black Pepper
If you've ever read about Long Pepper, the precursor to the West's obsession with the less expensive ground black pepper, you know what you'll find here. It's of great quality. If you intend to sprinkle it on things, you'll need a good spice grinder as it comes in full form. The flavour is a bit spicier, but slightly more fruity and definitely much more smooth than the variety you're probably used to.

Great quality, unique flavor
These were great and arrived as described. You're going to want to use a mortar and pestle, a typical spice grinder can be damaged as they're tough, but break up easily by hand. Long pepper has an interesting flavor, stronger than black pepper, and notes of cloves or fennel that add a richness to a dish.

Savor the flavor!
We fell in love with these pink "peppercorns" while on a visit to Germany several years ago. They add a lot of pepper flavor -- with virtually no heat -- to soups, stews or whatever. Best thing about them? You can have them delivered to your home without making a trip to Germany! (Though Germany is very, very nice...)

Arrived Moldy
I received these peppers in December of 2022, with a batch date of 0522 (presumably May 2022), and an expiration of May 2025. As the photos show, there were multiple moldy ones that are clearly visible. I assume the preparation and packaging process is substandard and allows excess moisture, thus breeding mold growth in the bag. Regardless of the cause, they clearly should never have made it through the fulfillment process, let alone to the customer.

Unique fun and convenient package
Price was good and packaging was really good. You can tell the spices are either very fresh or well packaged because the spice was very vibrant and freah.

Better than black pepper corns
I really love long pepper, much more than black pepper. To me, black pepper adds heat more than flavor, but long pepper adds loads of flavor, and the aroma is divine. I really advise you to give this a try and I think you'll be hooked like I am.

Even color, no mold or rot. Great flavor
Others have had bad experiences with this type of pepper. This brand was exceptional. Nice dark brown color, most pods were tight without seed loss. Grind them in a spice grinder or a coffee grinder that is clean (not a burr grinder). A little goes a long way. Example, 2 pods for 4 cups of melted cheese. Delicious!
