Acustico MTV: Gal Costa

The production and arrangement of this show was excellent! The first part of the show, Gal appeared tired, or sick, or out of sorts, with low energy. Not sure what was going on with her, but later into the show she seemed to become more animated and show more interest in performing. Her voice...what can I say...just marvelous!

This album and it's accompanying DVD is the epitome of Brazilian music at it's finest. I was fortunate to see this concerto when I was in Sao Paulo. Gal is inarguably the premiere female vocalist of her era. In many ways Classico, in other ways adventurous leading the Tropicalia movement with Caetano Veloso and others.With less than a few hours to perfect her set before a knowing audience, Gal sweeps you away to Leblon in Ipanema. Songs as popular as "Baby" or "London, Londontown" are interspersed with new songs from novo artisto braziliero making this a very exciting endeavor.This is MTV's Unplugged series with top of the line musicians. Bravissimo to our Brazilian artists.She closes out with a final appearance on top of one of the favelas in Janiero.

gal costa is living proof that Bossa Nova is one of the best music movements of all times these Dvd has an excellent digital Sound. You like Gal costa , Own it You'll Not regret it...

I love gal costa , went to see her live at the blue note in NYC, but this dvd is much better than reality. bonita de mais!

I've loved Gal Costa's recordings since the seventies. She has a distinctive, incandescent voice and chooses good material written by some of Brazil's greatest composers. This acoustic, live-for-MTV concert features a killer rhythm section and the Orquestra Petrobras Pro-Musica arranged and conducted by the highly esteemed Wagner Tiso. I like most of the songs chosen for this performance from Gal's huge catalog. I love that both English and Portuguese sub-titles are available, greatly enhancing appreciation of the lyrics and patter for a non-Brazilian audience. Great singer, wonderful musicians, goodmaterial, lush and grooving arrangements, beautiful venue, adoring audience, what's not to like? Well... Gal. To me, she comes across as a self-absorbed prima donna who thinks she's doing the world a favor to perform for us. I kept wishing I had a mute button for the picture. Oh well, I'm still giving it four out of five stars because the music and production is mostly wonderful. And by the way, A:Just one; she grabs the light bulb and the world revolves around her.
