About same price as a cord of wood without the hassle.
We live in a condo community with 6 villas in each building. We've had fireplaces before and carted in wood from a from a pipe frame for half a cord of wood. Then weekly we would clean out the ashes and yearly we would have a professional chimney sweep clean the fireplace, flue and chimney. We switched over to gas logs as it was cleaner and less expensive. Since we now love in a condominium, we have no place to put a large propane tank. As we love the ambiance of the crackling fire and the warmth provided for the living room, we opted to look at an electric log set. The Legend Fire logs are very realistic, provide heat with built in heater, thermostat and fan, it provides 6 settings of realistic crackling and wind noise, and best of all, no dragging in wood and cleaning the fireplace. To last through the winter, we had to purchase a half cord of wood (a rick of wood). For about the same price, we purchased this beautiful log set and look forward to many years of functionality and comfort without the hassle and cost of a wood fireplace.

Just a Great Little Fireplace insert!
I read the consumer reports evaluation of this unit & decided to buy it. This thing is great! It looks great, it works great. It comes preassembled, sans for the flame backdrop which is attached by 2 large headed screws. Very easy to attach. Literally just plug the unit in and it works right out of the box. Heats the front great room 4 to 5 degrees by our indoor weather station readings. I usually only right a review if something works pretty well. This thing works great! Nice to buy something that does what it says & looks as good in person as on the screen. Highly recommend. Oh, we have it in our regular wood burning fireplace and since we have used in past with wood, the burnt walls add to the effect.

Amazing how real they actually look and sound
These electric fireplace logs were ready to use right out of the boxโno setup hassle at all. The logs look surprisingly realistic, and the adjustable flame light, sound, and heat levels make it easy to create the exact atmosphere you want. A great option if you want the look and feel of a real fire with the convenience of electric.

Deciding which log set to buy and setting it up.
Legend Flame 25โ Electric log set I donโt often write reviews. This electric burring fireplace log set, Legend Flame 25โ, is worth my effort to write a review. I purchased the 25โ log set in Feb. 2024 and it is now April 2025. Over the 13 months we have used this unit for 7 months. During that time, we have enjoyed the unit about 4 hours almost every night. The unit is still working like new. To find the best electric log set, I spent about 6 hours searched on line. I went to two different cities to look at fireplace gas inserts and electric log sets. I ordered three electric log sets. I had all 3 sets together so I could try each one in my fireplace in one night to see which was best. The $600 one was the worst. The other two I ordered from Amazon. The one I didnโt choose had more realistic looking logs but less brightness. It cost more but had a cheap soft remote. I Spent $269.00 for the Legend Flame 25โ. The fire is not real looking but it is close and it is awesome. By the way, it has a great quality remote. We love our electric log set. We turn it on almost every night. We leave the flame setting on high. The crackling sound is great. I have to turn it down while watching TV for my hearing aids pick up too much of the crackling sound. Reading other review, some do not like the sound. My advice: turn the crackling volume down and stop critical listing especially for the repeating track. After about a week or so, you may find yourself really liking the crackling. We have never used the heater for we have glass doors on our fireplace. Even though there are airways at the bottom of the door frame, the doors would trap too much of the heat and running the heater would be an energy waster. By the way, the heaters in these log sets are all about the same size as any space heater that you buy at any Walmart store. Electric codes and log design do not allow large heaters to be plugged into any standard outlet. In the evening while we are watching TV, it is better to just turn up the thermostat one degree and grab a blanket. Reading some of the other reviews they suggested taking a black permanent marker and mark the thin edge of the plexiglass to help make it blend into the background of the fire box and prevent the glow reflection coming from the edge. The inside of my fire box is black from fire smoke and soot. I used the black ink marker to go over the edge two times to cover well. This made a big difference. During the day I can see the plexiglass a little and I donโt like seeing it. My fireplace is dark inside and over time I have gotten used to the plexiglass. I tried the unit out without the plastic but the plastic does a better job making the flames show more. In some of the videos and reviews the owners chose not to use the plexiglass. You do have to adjust your log set forward or back to see which position is best for the flames to show well. Setting My Log Set Up Due to the glass doors cutting off the bottom view of the lighted coals, I cut 2โ cinder blocks to line the bottom of the fireplace. This raised the log set up which made the viewing of the lighted log set much better. I ordered two sets of flickering Halloween lights and black volcanic rock or something like that. I used a flat black paint and sprayed the left-over block pieces. I had an outlet-cube with a remote so I can turn the flickering Halloween lights on and off remotely. โ Importantโ It doesnโt look good to place these lights all over the bottom of your fireplace. I grouped one set to the right and ran the end of the first set behind the log set. I plugged the second set into this end. I grouped the second set on the left. I used the painted black block pieces and some burned wood to hold the wires down and hide some of the lights. I then used about three gallons of the black lava rock to finish hiding all the wires and the lights. You need to view your lights at night. I had to redo the lights 3 times. Two of the times I had to remove most of the black lava rock. If you donโt have patience donโt add these lights. If they are done right, they look fantastic. (See my video and decide) Even though I have the fireplace damper closed, I covered the chimney liner block opening with a 3โ deep metal pan that I had made up at the tin shop. I used caulking to glue it in place. This keeps the cold air and rain out. This will prevent moisture from damaging the electric log set. I have enclosed two videos. I hope you can view them. I had a hell of a time uploading them on my computer and to open them. I would buy this unit again. In the video you will be able to see the Halloween lights hidden in the coals when I click them on and off. I like the added lights which help light up the fire box and glowing embers.

It's Pretty Good, But Sound isn't Great
I got this to go in our fireplace. For a whole host of reasons I no longer want to have actual fires in the fireplace, but I do like the ambience of having a fire. Set up was very straight forward. Took it out of the box, tested it, screwed the screen onto the back, set it in the fireplace, and plugged it in. I initially was not going to use the screen, but it is almost invisible in my fireplace and does enhance the flame effect. The flames were still visible on the back of the fireplace without it, but with the screen the illusion is much better. Visually it is quite good. At a glance it looks pretty real. There are 3 flame settings. The second setting doesn't change the intensity much, just seems to eliminate the blue flames. I like the blue so I set it on either the highest or the lowest setting. The camera on my phone does weird stuff when I turned the fire to the lowest setting so it doesn't really show it well. I like the gentle glow with subdued flames at that low setting. There seem to be 6 difference sound settings. Loud, medium and soft for 2 different styles of crackling - one that sounds like sizzling hot oil, and the other that sounds more realistically like a fire. All of them sound a bit hollow and fake. My husband hates them. I kind of like the low setting on the one that is more realistic. The sound is controlled with the remote only. There is also, of course, the heater, which works very well, but the fan is loud. It's still pretty warm here so I have only tested it to make sure it works. It does. It started pouring out heat immediately. There is a thermostat knob on the side for the heater. The remote works well. You can't be on the other side of the house, but within about 10-15 feet it works great. Overall I am very happy with it and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again knowing what I know now.

Beautiful alternative to wood
Surprisingly realistic and enjoyable! We light it every night. Very pleasant crackling sounds and excellent source of heat. Pros: *Looks and sounds surprisingly realistic *Good value overall *Remote very easy to work *Excellent heat source *Can run with heater or without *Doesnโt require venting through flue Cons: *A little pricey but very sturdy and substantial

Perfect if you love having a fire but don't love smelling like one.
We love fires for the holidays and during the Fall & Winter. What we don't love is the entire house smelling like smoke. So I've been looking for one of these for a while. I decided to take a chance on this one despite it being on the pricey side because of all the ones I've seen it looks the most like an actual bed of coals with logs. Let's start with the look: It looks amazing, even when not turned on. When it's on it's perfect. The bed of glowing embers with "flames" above them, topped with the logs just looks like a real fire. The rolling fire effect not only goes through the logs but also reflects off the back of the fireplace, which makes for a very realistic effect. We could not be happier with the appearance. It gives that cozy feel just as we were hoping. The heater is surprisingly strong on high and blows hot air quickly and powerfully. No complaints there either. As for the sound, it's a mixed bag. The crackling sound is nice & subtle on low, but on high sounds very tinny. This comes down to a small, weak speaker. I'm not worried about it because on low it sounds just right. On high my wife says it sounds like someone lit a fire in a tin can. I might replace the speaker with a better one down the road, but it's fine as is. A nice bonus in the manual is the back page is a schematic, which would make any repairs or upgrades easier. The wind sound is kind of pointless. I get what they were going for (a fire on a windy day) but the result sounds exactly like someone frying bacon in a pan. Not much reason I can think of to ever use it. Still, I'm not taking a star off for such a minor thing I'll never use. The remote is simple and easy to use. I guess it's the nature of the design, but since the remote sensor is tucked away under the "grate", you have to be sure to aim in the right spot for it to work. As I write this review I'm sitting next to the fireplace. I love the coziness of it, and every once in a while my eye catches the glow and my brain wonders why there's no heat coming off the fire. Then I remember it's metal and plastic. We really couldn't be happier with this. It adds the look (and mostly the sound) of a real fire without the mess and smell (first world problems, right?). I can't say how durable it will be but it feels solidly built, and other than the cheap speaker it feels well thought out. It's one of the more expensive ones...I've seen these for $100 or less on sale...but it looks much more realistic than the cheap models.

Looks fabulous. Good heat if you want it. The fan is nice white noise. Worth the price.

I absolutely LOVE this product! I consider myself very 'fussy' when it comes to my decor and I totally recommend this item!

Perfect addition for the fireplace.
Have been using this for a couple of months now and love how it looks. We didn't use the round back plastic as it wasn't needed, but it lights up our empty fireplace with warm & real-looking logs. The audio is terrible as others have mentioned, but we expected this and just use the lights and heating functions.
