Blood Gun Money

This is Ioan Grillo's best book. El Narco and Gangster Warlords are also outstanding but this book both provides an excellent world overview of guns on a macro level and brings it down to the powerful and often horrific details of the micro level. The writing is outstanding and the book is impossible to put down. The solutions in the final chapter are carefully thought out and realistic. The timeliness of this book could not be better. In 400 pages immigration along the Mexican border, gun violence, gun control, the drug wars, the Mexican cartels, the iron river of guns that flow from the United States to Mexico and the extreme gang violence that is ripping apart both Mexico and Central America are coherently examined and tied together. The complexities of these issues are illuminated by vivid and disturbing stories. This is a very powerful and necessary book for the third decade of the 21st century.
