The sickle design is perhaps the most efficient method at trimming or pruning plants. The curved blade and pulling motion allow the almost effortless cutting action. The machete is sometimes overkill in cutting power and effort when it comes to green branches and the sharpness of the machete may not be enough for clean cuts. Clippers will do the job at trimming green branches but the motion of gripping and regripping can grow tiresome after hours of work. A very sharp sickle will cut with a slight flick of the wrist and the lightweight sickle is very efficient. The sickle arrives very sharp and is ready to cut. The handle and blade are of good quality and the blade is sharpened with a chisel grind, meaning only one side is sharpened. Clean and oil the blade after use to prevent corrosion. I'm very glad that I bought this sickle.

This is an extremely sharp and effective but can be dangerous to use. This sickle (although it is not called a sickle, I believe that is what it would be called in western cultures) is very sharp, easy to use (stooping or on your hands and knees) and cuts through grass, vines and undergrowth, including briars with ease, but requires you to get close to the work. It would be quite easy to cut your leg or opposing arm if you start day dreaming and it could be a serious injury. A large area would be easier to treat with a weed eater tool but for small areas that requires surgical treatment, it is great. I use it to clear out veggie or herb plants without impacting plants right nearby as you can simply slide the blade into tight places and remove plants on one side of the blade without damaging things on the backside. Just don't leave this laying around for the kids or grandkids to find.

Wow, where do I even start? This sickle is so sharp that it cut me before I even had a chance to use it! I was just opening the packaging, minding my own business, and bam—my hand met the precision of this blade. One trip to the ER and a few stitches later, I can confidently say: this thing means BUSINESS. Now, I know what you’re thinking: 'Why give a product that made you bleed 5 stars?' Easy. Because this sickle is simply too good at its job. This is sharpe and great for weeding. It only has one problem. Its short as expected and I hate being bent over for long periods.

I bought this to cut back ivy and other overgrown vines. It worked beautifully. I needed to skim just under the surface of my beds to loosen points of contact and then clear the unwanted surface growth away. It sliced through both very easily and made quick work of my yearly maintenance. The extra length was helpful in that regard. Also used it to cut grass around my neighbors’ homes that had severely overgrown their curbs and was impervious to edgers. It sliced thru the material and really impressed my friends. Also cleared away weed growth in sidewalk and driveway cracks. Have not attempted to sharpen it yet and will report on that later. Only negative is the rubber handle cover can slide off the grip on prolonged, forceful pulling. Would have been nice to have a more robust blade guard than the plastic sheath provided.

I like this better than the traditional machete that is used where I live in the tropics. I am able to be more efficient in using the sickle because of the pulling motion.

Already have a cheaper lighter weight sickle with a wood handle that is easy to use, but is in hiding lately. Wanted to try a stainless steel blade that won't rust. I prefer the my cheaper wood handled sickle. This one is heavy, sharp, and a thing of beauty, but it rubs my index finger the wrong way. I was raising a blister after using it to cut back a small patch of Russian Comfrey, which is not all that tough in stems. I had neoprene gloves on, but still rubbed the side of the second knuckle and can see a bruise on the pad where the index finger meets the palm. I also found it did not slice through the older (3 months) Comfrey stems at all.

Excellent balance and sharpness—ideal for the harvests that feed the masses. This sickle is easy to use, even during extended periods of collective labor. Be warned, however: the blade is so sharp that I cut myself just removing the packaging! So far, I’ve used it to clear thick weeds and even small poplars in areas that can’t be mowed, and it has performed exceptionally well. A solid tool.

Good shape of blade and handle. It does well to clean up around the bottom of the small trees that we planted. The one thing that is lacking is the hardness of the steel. It is very soft which lends to easy sharpening but sharpening often. The shape of the blade does well but really does need a sheath.
