Put this sauce on everything!
We were introduced to Lizano in Costa Rica, brought some home, ran out and discovered we could order it on Amazon! The flavor is amazing and the 3-pk big bottle size was totally worth the price!

Buy the Salsa Lizano made for export- cheaper and les junk ingredients
This Costa Rican salsa is a savory sauce to flavor a dish called gallo pinto, a mix of rice of rice and black beans that is magical and traditional in Costa Rica. As above, buy the version made for export (less additives and stabilizers, cheaper too.... It is wonderful with an egg or two on it, or plain for vegans.Sauté onion in oil then add uncooked rice to lightly toast the starch on the outside of the rice. There should be no extra oil, just enough to lightly coat the rice to toast it. Stir frequently while toasting, 10 to if minutes. For 1 cup uncooked rice sauté first 1/2 yellow onion until mostly translucent then add the dry rice and stir to coat. There should not be extra oil, just enough to coat all. If you have too much oil once mixed, Then pour off the oil before proceeding.Add less water than the package says (I/3 to 1/4 cup less) and cut the cooking time by about 8 to 10 minutes . If the rice has extra water but is a good consistency,, the extra water can be poured off or stirred and left to steam for another 10 min on very low temp.Add 1 can of rinsed and drained black beans to the rice per cup of dry rice--the rice will warm the beans. Make sure to scrape up from the bottom, especially the bottom corners of the pan when mixing in the black beans. The heat of the rice will warm the means. Add the Salsa Lizano in small amounts taste. I really enjoy it with an egg over easy on top, although this it not necessary. My husband prefers to add some hot sauce such as Tapatio or Tabasco but I prefer it as above--savory not picante.Salsa Lizano is a common condiment on tables in homes and restaurants in Costa Rica, much like ketchup is here. But it is wonderful and very much worth a try....

Delicious condiment, flavorful but not hot
In Costa Rica, Salsa Lizano is as common on restaurant tables as ketchup is in the U. S. It is tangy and bursting with flavor, but not spicy hot. It is a thick liquid that pours easily. We mostly use Salsa Lizano in black bean soup, on rice and beans, and on eggs. It is good on lots of other foods, too.
