G-SHOCK G-LIDE has long been a favorite choice among the world's top surfers and street sports athletes, and these new additions for 2016 promise to maintain that tradition. The new GAX-100 combination model provides the best of both analog and digital formats. Large hour markers, hour hand, and minute hand contribute to easy reading. The arrow shaped minute hand and the contrasting color of the analog hands provide at-a-glance readings even while paddling or waiting the next wave.

Tide-Temp-Moonphase and much more - no box of gears does this for the price.
G Shocks are proven to be some of the most rugged watches on earth, and compared to the Dive watches I own this model is more than equal to the task for those who need a durable and reliable watch for everyday use. They are certainly more affordable and less expensive in service.First, the watch is accurate, my Divers would barely maintain accuracy of one minute a week, this model is keeping about one second fast in three weeks. That means I don't need to unscrew the stem every Friday and reset it - I likely won't bother for 6 months, and then it's a simple push button adjustment. The dial reads very clearly per Dive standards which is a refreshing change from the usual colorful G Shock experience. The data displays are arranged underneath the hands, with the analog tide display at 10, day at 2, a larger day date etc at four, and a moon phase at 8. The last three run with the unerring accuracy expected of a quartz driver and also include a temperature readout.Temps are conditioned by the fact it's on your wrist - to get an accurate reading it requires being off the body for 30 minutes. Accurate on body temps of the ambient climate would be just as difficult to determine if a mercury thermometer were taped to your wrist - skin temps being about 86 degrees it's going to read that. You have to remove any thermometer from a heat source to get an accurate ambient temperature. The Tide dial is a good rudimentary indicator. I've tracked it over the last three weeks comparing to a potential vacation spot on the Gulf coast and it's usually about 85% right. The other times it's completely wrong - but there are a number of reasons for that. Tides are a complicated and very local condition - and the tide and it's arrival on one side of a peninsula may be entirely at one time when it's final arrival on the other side in a back bay or coastal waterway can be another. Less than three miles apart. Tides are a matter of oscillating waves - not the little ones we surf, the larger ones motivated by the moon, and as they "vibrate" they react with the sea floor, channels, coastline, river estuaries, etc. It takes a large and detailed program to inform the wearer of very precise event timing, and even tho many exist, none will step up and take the liability for navigational error.Don't let this discourage you - once on the beach you get the best information, the actual tide itself. They do not oscillate as we like but to an odd timeframe which can often interact with harmonics which can even extend their duration. Unless you are planning to sail over obstacles at high tide or invade a French coast, it's a lot more than what you could expect to put on your wrist for the price. And, it's just one function of the watch.Overall it's a great watch, and certainly does a lot more than the average box of gears. One attempting the same functions would be either an extremely expensive limited edition - or, you can do what a fixed mechanical watch would be even more complex to offer, just adjust for it periodically. About once a week. Now, I'd rather index my tide function to be comparatively accurate, than have to correct the time keeping of the watch to correct for it being minutes off in a week. I mention this because there are watch fans who aren't happy about tidal functions being off but who will accept the basic purpose of the watch being inaccurate in just a few days. It's an interesting contrast in how fans sometimes react - too tightly focused on one aspect but entirely uncaring about another. Just take it in balance and you find it works just fine.

very easy to read
The hands and dial markers on this watch are the easiest to read and highest contrast of any analog g-shock I have seen, very easy to read, and show up very bright when using the light.Digital display is nearly impossible to read at night because of negative display. However, negative display keeps watch face black and again makes analog easier to read which for me is 99% of the watches purpose.I like all digital g-shock as well and have owned many over the years, but analog watches have the hour glass effect where you can see proportionally how much time you have left to do something that a digital watch simply cannot duplicate.Size, weight and fit is great, the GA-1XX series of watches to me is about perfect as far as I am concerned in that aspect. (I have large wrists (approx. 8", so watch sits perfect for me)Tide dial and moon-phase are accurate, so for beach goers/surfers/boaters/fisherman like me it is about the most use full feature a watch can have.Overall very happy with this watch.

Beautiful watch
Firstly the watch arrived within 3 days of ordering it. Fantastic considering I live in Durban south Africa. This is really a good looking watch which I would give 5 stars if not for the watch band. Unfortunately it has a plastic buckle but more importantly it is not that comfortable compared to my GW 7900 which has the wings. Unlike a lot of reviews I dont think it looks cheap at all just a plastic buckle and not comfortable as mentioned. Hopefully it softens up a bit with some wear. The watch it self is stunning. All the functions work perfectly out of the box. I went for this model as the white hands are very visable and easy to read at any angle. In saying that if you want to read the digital side of the watch at night rather get the blue one which is a positive display. The negative display is virtually un readable at night but this is why I went for this one as it makes the white hands stick out against the black negative display. This is my 3rd tide and moon G shock but the first analog display. The other 2 are still working perfectly so must admit this Gshock bug is definately catching me. I do a lot of league rock and surf fishing so the tide and moon functions are crucial for me over and above the ABC watches. The analog tide display is extremely easy to read and in a way more accurate than the digital display as it seems to move every hour rather than every 2 hours or so on the digital. I'm sure they work on the exact same algorithm but it just seems more accurate.Unfortunately I can't test it in the sea and put it through its paces till after Christmas as I have to open it again on Christmas day but all things being equal it seems perfect. Ps..setting the watch is simple and if you have never had a Gshock before, just download the instructions. Dont give the watch a 1 star rating because you cant set it. It effects the overall rating which i think is very unfair.
