Scathing--funny--The Cast!!!!
Hadn't seen forever, but huge Meryl fan--perfection, always. But noticing the cast was a treasure chest of goodies--early days for so many, so it took a few moments of 'is that...is that SO and SO?', over and over. So, for that entertainment alone, get the film; the acting is fun to watch and the humor quick despite the cautionary tales tucked into the story, fashion and publishing being quite ruthless environments. Ann Hathaway and Stanley Tucci for the win with humor. But Meryl with icy disdain...best. ever.

A fun romp
Never saw this movie before, but I was impressed by the performances. Meryl Streep is wonderfully demanding as Miranda yet 3 dimensional with a human, vulnerable side. Stanley Tucci strikes just the right note between supercilious and mentor. Anne Hathaway, too, is delightful as the ("fat" size 6) put-upon assistant who shows there's more to her than brains, perkiness and a cerulean blue sweater. Emily Blunt as the snooty senior assistant is excellent as well. Adam Grenier as "le boyfriend" too is perfect as the less-than-supportive love interest. And Simon Baker did a great job as the romantic rival, charming but almost devious. A fine secondary cast--too many to name-- rounds out the performance. Several excellent montages advance the story (coats and purses is my fave). Lovely plot twist at the end. All in all, a well done movie and well worth watching.

a really good movie ...
Well, this movie was an education: first of all it is based upon a very real person whom courtesy forbids naming - a viciously abusive individual who is notorious, very famous and very successful. This movie tells the story of a smart small-town girl who makes it her mission and life to wrestle the world of high fashion to the mat, and then stomp on it: she succeeds. During the course of the year she works for a magazine which is a stand-in for "Vogue," she changes completely, loses a very old friend and makes one new one, ditches her soul and then comes back to get it. I don't think this movie could be made today: we're too politically correct now and this character would be faulted for her character, which proves itself strong in the end, and her standards, which are high and to which she finally returns. But I value it for these very reasons. (Watch for a cameo appearance from 'gorgeous Gisele!')

LITERALLY ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER CREATED
Oh my gosh where do I begin? Fave movie ever, ummmm star sTUDDED cast (Streep😩, Hathaway ❤️, Blunt👏🏼, Tucci✨), fanTAStic plot, amazing script-work, what’s not to like? I can talk for literally the rest of my life about just how much I would love to be personally screamed at by Miss Priestly (aka the Devil) herself or give to be Andy Sachs (she does have a job millions of girls would KILL for, after all). This movie drips with humor and comic drama and honestly I love it soooooooooooooooo very much. This film and its cast bring me joy whenever I watch and I am so psyched to have it as a digital copy now so I literally never have to go anywhere without the comfort of knowing I have this A+++++++++ classic in my very own pOCKET! To sum, gr8 movie, love everyone, thank you so much, and that’s all! ❤️✨🤗

Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt make up for the movie's shortcomings!
The only good things about this movie are: Meryl Streep's and her quotable zingers, Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt's breakout performance, the clothes, the Madonna songs/fashion montages, and Anne Hathaway's performance as Andrea Sachs...that's about it. If the movie could somehow have made sense without Andy's pouty boyfriend (Adrian Greiner as a struggling sous chef who can't seem to find a hairbrush) and her shallow, hypocritical "friends" (they LOVE the free gifts she brings from Runway but turn on her viciously when she begins to don couture in her efforts to do the best job possible in her "pay your dues" turn as an abused assistant to the tyrannical Miranda Priestly), it would have been better. Andy's "friends" don't seem to understand that she has taken this thankless, low-paying, and often humiliating job (which is also TEMPORARY) because it will open countless doors for her to pursue her real career goals. True friends wouldn't (or shouldn't) be so vicious and hyper-judgmental when one of their own needs them most (like when they're working in a thankless, low-paying, and often humiliating job for an evil boss). Still, watch it for Meryl, Stanley and Emily if nothing else!

Meryl of course is fantastic
Meryl Streep does (of course) a fantastic job with this character almost too good. If I had never seen a movie with Meryl Streep in it because she plays this roll the way she does (nasty and mean) I don't think I would be a Streep fan Thankfully I have many of her movies because she is a phenomenal actor. She is the only reason I actually bought this dvd is because its a role you typically don't see her play and she doesn't disappoint. Ann Hathaway is good and has an agenda by sticking with her job and I remember and still do think while watching this how focused she was to staythere and put up with what she had to do for her boss WOW
