How Can You Go Wrong?
Seiko sure makes a lot of watches, and I had a difficult time deciding which one to buy. About 20 years ago, I bought a Seiko self-winding watch simply because I didn't care for the idea of changing the battery every couple of years, and I was certain that a battery would fail me on the one occasion when I really needed it. As for my self-winding Seiko, it seemed that the older that watch became, the more I had to shake it to wind it up, so I just gave up on it about two years ago. But afterwards, there were occasions when I missed having a good watch, so I searched through Amazon and finally settled on the Seiko SNE047. It was a “solar” watch, and I had no idea that such technology existed for watches. So this meant that its source of power was any kind of light, and thus it didn't need self-winding or a battery. Perfect! It also appealed to me because it looked a lot like my old self-winding Seiko, which was also a nice looking watch, but which is currently languishing in my sock drawer. I really wasn't too keen on buying a watch online since there is always a (very remote) risk that it might not even work, or that the band wouldn't fit (it doesn't – add my experience to the Amazon reviews), but I decided to go ahead with the purchase in spite of my misgivings. When the watch arrived a few days after I ordered it, I took it out of the box and it was actually working! I couldn't hear it ticking - yes, I expected it to actually tick audibly - but it was indeed silent, and the second hand was indeed moving one second at a time. The time indicated was wrong, as was the day and date indicator, but there was a tiny instruction booklet for changing that. The instructions also indicated that for my watch's "caliber code", I would need to charge it under ANY light for 6 hours to achieve a 10 month running time. That, to me, was very impressive. Of course, they warned against leaving it exposed to direct sunlight, or too close to a hot lamp, for fear of damaging the watch itself. So I placed it about a foot or so beneath a 40 watt desk lamp for the requisite 6 hours, and we shall see how long this charge lasts. As mentioned, the wristband is too large, but still wearable, so eventually I will take it to a jeweler to have a link or two removed from the wristband, and I hope they won’t charge too much for that service. The watch sure looked great coming out of that neat box, all sparkling, heavy, and spiffy. The instructions indicated that the watch could be worn in water to a depth of 100 feet. That’s a very convenient feature...for deep sea divers. I guess they added that information to assure us that the watch is waterproof, and well made. The instruction booklet also showed how to adjust the tiny calendar date and day of the week indicator, but you know what? I don't plan to use that feature, just like I didn't use it for my old Seiko, so I don’t bother with it. (If I had seen the same watch without that day and date feature, I’d have selected it.) Besides, in order to see the day and date indicator, I would need my reading glasses. I figured that if I didn't know the day of the week and the calendar date on my own, I probably wouldn't be needing a watch much longer anyway. Plus it required an adjustment for 30 day months, as well as February, which helped reduce that feature to the status of folderol to my indolent way of thinking. And by the way, the dials are indeed luminous and do indeed glow in the dark, but only when recently exposed to light. Thus, because it’s a Seiko, and a nice looking one at that, and since it's solar powered to boot, and since it certainly seems to be working just fine, I’m giving it 5 stars, subject to later review.

A lot like the SNE050, only less gold and more contrast in the face. Nice case design. "Knocking them cold with black and gold"
I put this on a stainless Don Juan band which is very light and quick to put on. It is not too heavy for a slip-on cuff band. I tried an SNE107 solar diver and it turned out to be too large and heavy for a medium Don Juan.I looked at many Seiko watches of this type and the SNE047 model has the highest contrast dial. I didn't like the look of the little triangles, and fortunately they are not noticeable in this dial.It takes just two seconds to put on and take off a Don Juan. But I also wanted to show off the case. The curved space between the lugs really should not be covered up by the end links of a bracelet. The bracelet feels very good and does not pull hair. I used it on another silver/gold watch that had an inferior band. The watch is not heavy, but the bracelet is. This watch with its metal bracelet is a little heavier than a standard dive watch with a rubber strap. But the weight is balanced -- spread out in the bracelet-- and the watch stays put. It can be worn a little loose for comfort, and it won't flop around like you might expect. One of my favorites. Great value at about $90 for a solar watch that has a 10 month power reserve and will last at least 15 years. Some of mine have been ticking for 20 years.Good luck,-Chris

Just what I had hoped it would be!
This watch is is a great value for the price, it is accurate, stylish, very well built and meets all of my requirements for a replacement for the old Seiko that I've had for about twenty years. I'm looking forward to the solar powered performance of this watch because the only thing that I had to do to my old Seiko was replace the battery from time to time. The reason that bought this new Seiko is I had a crack in the crystal on my old watch that finally got so bad that was an embarassment to wear even though the watch worked just fine.Ironically, the night before my new solar powered Seiko was delievered, my old Seiko stopped at 3:00 A.M.

A beautiful timepiece
I am a female that bought this watch because I could not read the dial on a typical woman's watch without 1.75 readers and hoped that a larger dial would be more easily read. I love Seiko watches and I love their solar watches, so I thought this would be a perfect match. Indeed, it is a beautiful timepiece and would be perfect for a man who does not desire a huge, heavy timepiece on his wrist. It also serves the purpose of being easier to read. However, for a woman's wrist, even one that is large such as mine, it is simply too heavy. And, it looks like a man's watch instead of a larger woman's watch, even though the trend seems to be larger watches for women. It was a great idea but it just didn't work out. Guys - go for it - it's a looker!

4th Seiko in my lifetime
I purchased this Seiko watch because my previous Seiko of 37 years finally died on me. I was impressed with the delivery time to reach me and when I opened the box, I was very surprised. This watch is very beautiful, easy to set and charge the light battery, and the workmanship is exemplary. I am duly impressed as were those in my family whom I showed my new watch. Being a Seiko fan for many, many years (This is the 4th Seiko I have owned in my lifetime.) I would never think of ordering any other make of wrist watch. I have found that the Seiko watches I've had in the past were all of excellent quality and workmanship.

Great watch, great price
It's a little heavy (other watch is titanium, so anything will seem heavy by comparison), but the face is easy to read. I took it to a jeweler's to have the bracelet adjusted ($3.50) and it fits perfectly. Class with a suit and casual enough to wear with jeans and a t-shirt. I love the fact it's solar-powered and won't need to buy batteries!

Great watch!
This is a great watch. I bought it for the $116 price, with shipping came to 145. It arrived in less than 48 hours, with standard shipping! It is very comfortable on the wrist (I removed one link, which was not hard to do. Just need a push pin and some pliers). Worked instantly out of the box, just a little bit of sunlight (through the shutters) and the watch started ticking right away. It ticks ever 2 seconds when not charged, and every second with sufficient charge (5 mins in sunlight max).It is not water "proof", but should hold up to splashes of water. NOT a watch to take into a pool/oceanIt does have a shine to it in daylight, but looks very good. It is not too flashy. The luminous markers are not that great, but they are readable. This watch can be worn with a suit or casual/dressy.It' my first seiko, hoping it lasts me 30-40 years! Have read a lot about seiko reliability
