Joe Knows Fish: Taking the Intimidation Out of Cooking Seafood Hardcover – 4 June 2018

There's a lot about this book that makes me hunger (ha!) for Joe's next cooking project...the descriptions and pictures of the dishes, clear directions, special hints - every meal I made was delicious! My family is hesitant - was hesitant, about fish but Joe's recipes are causing them to ask for repeats. I am also developing confidence in preparing fish dishes - it's almost impossible to mess up, the recipes are that clear, precise, and accessible. Joe knows fish - and he knows how to teach preparation techniques.

This is a different kind of a cookbook. I love to cook but tend to shy away from fish. Joe Gurrera removes the mystique and provides, clear, easy explanations, not only of how to cook seafood, but how to source and select it. The book is packed, with the perfect way to find and cook your fish, it is loaded with tips (make sure you read the "Joe Says" sidebars), the perfect side dish for the recipe, and personal stories about Joe Guerra's life among seafood. The cover blurb is not kidding. This does take the intimidation out of cooking seafood. And, oh yeah the pictures and design are fabulous.

It is a decent book, but most of his recipes are very simple, he pushes simplicity actually for cooking fish which I understand but was hoping for some detailed recipes. Everyone knows salt, pepper, and oil is needed for fish, granted he goes into how to do it a little better application-wise... As far as understanding fish types, freshness, he breaks it down pretty well but I felt there could have been a little more details offered regarding this if he could have expanded on them...with that said he does offer overnight service from his fish market but personally I am more budget-minded and cant afford to ship overnight and can imagine that could end up being pricey compared to getting it at your local market... but he gives good tips on how to find this at your local fish market and trying to get a trusted local supplier.. Overall a decent book. Lots of good pictures.

Be prepared for delicious dishes that feature and enhance the delicacy of flavors and great variety of possibilities of fish. This is a great cookbook, a fabulous resource for learning along with gorgeously presented photographs. Love everything about this book but especially the culinary treasures that are now on our table.
