Q: How thick of wood will this detect through? I have some old cedar posts i want to rip into boards.

The Lumber Wizard is designed to detect just under the surface of the wood to a distance of a couple inches depending on size of metal. It is ideal for planing wood. For deeper detection, you would need a very, very powerful AC powered detector and those costs many thousands of dollars.

Q: Will end sniping be a problem with this machine?

I think you are thinking this is a planer, it is just a hand held metal detector.

Q: Does this work on green wood just as well as dry?

I have used mine on trees that were standing dead. After felling the trees they were still green inside and my lumber wizard 5 worked great . It was detecting metal as deep as 6 inches. I'm very pleased with mine.
