They really need to include instructions but I did a little research on the internet and figured it out pretty quickly. The person who thinks you insert the needle in the plug is wrong. You have to remove the plug. My biggest advice is do not overfill them. I found about 7 ml about right for the colors and 12 ml good for the black. After you fill them make sure to blot them on a paper towel to make sure they are not leaking. Blot until they don't stain the paper towel anymore. I am so happy I bought these. I have been refilling the original HP cartridges for a while now and have had nothing but frustration and mess. This is SOOOO very much better. It's like getting a whole new printer for me because these print so much nicer than my other refills. But do keep in mind it's still not perfect and if you want perfect pay for HP, but otherwise I'm thrilled.

Buyer beware! The concept is great if it actually worked. It gets one star as it did reset the ink levels on the printer, but these are far from working properly. The printing was awful streaks everywhere and missing ink where there should be ink. There was no change in print quality after 8 cartridge clean cycles. I noticed the ink levels had dropped rapidly on the printer display opened up the printer and saw ink all over. Never saw that with the factory cartridges I've been refilling for the past six months. There has got to be a problem in the way the cartridge vents. I pulled the cartridges out and placed the HP cartridges I had refilled back in and the print out after one cleaning had none of the problems these refillable cartridges had. They just don't reset the ink levels on the display. If your considering these don't, stick to a kit that gives you the parts needed to refill the factory cartridges. Also it was not an ink issue because I'm using the same ink in the HP cartridges.

Why didn't I get this sooner? As a graduate student and journal manager, my printing load has averaged 100 pages per week. You can imagine the amount of ink that requires. I purchased these cartridges for my HP Officejet 4462 printer because ink was costing me $70-120 for 2 months. With this refillable, I bought the ink in addition to these cartridges and I am average $2 a month. This is environmentally friendly and economically beneficial to anyone.

not sure what the issue was with these cartridges. It may have been the new printhead also causing problems but I could not get the printer to recognize the yellow ink cartridge. They seem to be a quality product visually, but maybe something going on with the embedded chip? In any case, the return was handled promptly and a refund issued. 3 stars for that. I would probably try them again at some point.

I've been using these ink cartridges for over a year now, no issues whatsoever. Only thing was when I first refill them, you will get the streaks..duh. Well, you need to do a clean cycle for the print heads. Once you do this, it works just fine. Read the instructions, it clearly states this.

This is a tricky process to get used to but once you figure it out it's great, unlike HP they are a greedy self centered corporation.
