No. The base is also cardboard so water ruins it. Would be cool if it did though/was all plastic.

Would this be an appropriate home for a hermit crab?

Here are the reasons why this would NOT work to house a Hermit Crab: - Way too small! Hermit crabs need an average depth of at least 6 inches of substrate in order to bury themselves & molt. - You also need room for 2 dishes of water (each deep enough so that the crab can fully submerge itself)- both dechlorinated; 1 fresh, 1 aquarium salt. - No room for food or climbing or friends or an array of extra shells! - The majority of substrate materials (like playsand) will come right out of these sides. - Heat & Humidity are extremely important- if your temp. (~80°) & humidity (~75-80) are not maintained ALL the time, your crab will slowly suffocate (they have modified gills & breath the moisture in the air). Please continue to do your research before adopting Hermit Crabs. They require alot more than most people realize :)

I’d there a way to open the top or bottom for better access to clean the interior? If so, how? I can’t seem to unscrew the lid or pop off bottom.

Hello Genuine, You should be able to open the lid by turning it counter-clockwise. It should be relatively easy to undo. Make sure to remove all adhesive, as you can sometimes have it on the inside of the lid. We hope this helps! - Team B

Jag gav bort den till en 4-åring och hade redan förberett med lite insekter för att väcka nyfikenhet. Det blev mer intressant än alla andra leksaker han fick. Jag tror det är ett bra sätt att väcka nyfikenhet för naturen och en bra kontrast till alla leksaker som barn snabbt tröttnar på.

Great little bug house!

This has been my daughters bug house for roly polys, praying mantis, butterflies, moths, caterpillars, worms, ladybugs and milk bugs. Overall it has held up to a lot of wear and tear and despite being dropped multiple times it has not cracked. It has adequate air vents in the top, but the holes aren’t too large to let small bugs escape. The lid also screws off for easy cleaning. The furniture inside is attached and super cute as the bugs can lounge on it. The clear plastic that surrounds it is not as thick as I’d like as it does dent if pushed on too hard. It can be popped back into place though. I would definitely recommend this for kids who love to catch and care for bugs of their own.
