Guidance Worthy of Your Attention
I’m in my mid-sixties and have a career in academic research and also have found good health via daily Qi Gong as well as use of complementary medicine. Too often I’ve sensed a disconnect between the careful standards for information in the academic world and the books on subjects that are of interest to general readers in alternative health areas. Well, I am very very happy to find that Codes of Longevity is not only readable and encouraging, but also really well documented. Because of my engagement as a patient with Traditional Chinese Medicine, I was immediately drawn to the chapter, “Ancient Wisdom, Modern Practice: Learning from the Past to Design our Future,” by Dr. Ashley Beckman. The author provides references to recent scientific studies as well as classics of TCM to support the wise use of these techniques for extending health into old age. She describes the substance and use of ginseng, reishi, cordyceps, and green tea and offers “longevity tips” for each. Most other chapters are up to this standard of information and utility. I do wish the book had a bibliography of the references in the book itself, but these are planned to be provided via signing up at a link from the book's website. Dr. Grill-Peterson assembled a worthy group of experts to write these chapters. I wish she’d described herself as “About the Editor/Author” rather than “About the Author,” [editing is quite a significant task] and truly, that’s all I'd change. I’m excited to digest the wisdom in all of this book!

Great "Field Guide" for navigating the landscape of new tech & research for building optimal health
One of my own (and favorite) health care professionals wrote a section of this book, so I started with my doctor's contribution and have loved reading advice from the other experienced contributors. This book is like a field guide for navigating the landscape of "new technologies and advanced research" that is currently being applied to health and health optimization fields. I love that this book motivates you to consider what to purposefully include in building your own personalized health optimization plan. I feel the information provided in this book helps explain more of the pieces of the puzzle that I heard or read about in passing, but did not know how to integrate into my own daily routine. I love being able to add new tools --and I feel that hearing from these experts helps inform me in creating my own optimal setting for whole system health.

Prepare to undergo a paradigm shift
One of the opening lines in the book is "Aging is not a disease, but a process that with the right tools you can stop, slow down and even reverse." This sentence is the beginning of a paradigm shift. Often, when society talks about extending lifespan and healthspan, it's full of wishes and hopes—but little substance. This book is the complete opposite. Not only will you get an inside look at technologies, modalities, and most importantly ways of thinking to shift your mindset—you're going to get actionable insights that can be put into place immediately to start your journey to improving your healthspan, lifespan, and wellspan.

So much new information!
Dr. Melissa Petersen has managed to collect the latest research from the most "in the know" in the field. With the rapidly evolving information constantly coming forth, it really helps to have someone gather it and help to make sense of it all. As a novice, the collection of experts covering the diverse range of topics gave me a much better grasp of the concepts, some older and established but now making better sense (Leann Spofford's "Nature and It's Healing Power") and some very new (Dr. Kamperveen's "Preconceive Longevity", which, as a midwife, I found fascinating!).

Great read for tips to live a long and healthy life.
I am steadfast in my commitment to live to be 100 in good health, active and laughing. I am keenly interested in books like Codes of Longevity and the wisdom and practical tips provided to assist me in achieving my longetivity goal. I was particularly struck by Terry Clark’s chapter on flow. I like the correlation to self-actualization and being 500% more productive; the inverse connection between brain flow and obesity, and how critical sleep is. All of this is significant to the impact I intend to have on the world. Great read!
