***Buyer Beware***
I have not been able to get the watch working just yet. I am not sure whether it's a defect with just the watch or user error that is preventing me from getting the watch to charge/power on and then pair with the base. I will say the customer service is outstanding and worth 5 stars. A representative is trying to help me troubleshoot the device and I even received a telephone call from a central office asking about my customer service experience. The gentleman was very personable and seemed to genuinely want to make sure I was good to go so thank you! I will make an update to this post once I get the device working.***Update****I wish I could give this watch zero stars for poor craftsmanship! After getting a replacement base in the mail (two prongs were depressed to a point where it would not charge my watch), the watch itself still did not work even after the base now said it was charged. Nothing appeared on the display. After sending in my watch for diagnosis, I am now told I have to pay more money to have it replaced on top of my original purchase price (see email below). Why would the company assume that I would a) not only wear a broken watch but submerge it in water and b) remove the screws? Second, how can you be certain that the watch wasn't broken in the first place when you sold me a broken base from the beginning? I want out of my contract because this was clearly a refurbished/poor quality product and now I'm out $95.95 for the watch and two months of monitoring for nothing, which is another $100!See the email below from customer serviceWe received the watch and after inspecting it I have found that 2 of the 4 screws holding the watch together are missing and the inside of the watch has water damage that cannot be repaired. Now these screws are not something that can fall out of their own. They can only be removed with a very tiny screwdriver and they are difficult to remove. Also the water damage would indicate the watch was at some point submerged in water. The watch is not waterproof, only splashproof, and the removed screws would add 2 openings for water to enter as well. Unfortunately neither water damage nor physical damage are covered under warranty, so this watch cannot be replaced under warranty. We can provide a replacement for $75 + shipping. Let me know if you want to do this and I can charge the card that is on your account and get the replacement shipped immediately. Also the replacement will be tested by me prior to shipping to ensure no further issues will occur.****update*****Now I'm even more furious. I don't deny the alert history. I sat on the phone with this gentleman as he directed me to push the panic buttons for troubleshooting purposes which sent the alerts. It's as if he's saying gotcha!!. Also, he "personally inspected each unit" yet overlooked the broken base they sold me.See second email from customer serviceI am sorry that you are not satisfied with the purchase, however your accusation that we sent you a refurbished or otherwise previously used unit is unwarranted. We only send new unopened units to Amazon and I have that we have shipped to them. The issue you had with the charger base (that we swapped for you, no questions asked) could have been a manufacturer defect, but missing screws and water damage is not the fault of Lok8u. The watch you sent to me is damaged and nonfunctional, and your account has an alert history that proves the watch was functional prior to you sending it to us, during the time that you owned it. We can offer you a new replacement watch at $75 + shipping as per the terms in my previous email. If you do not wish to purchase a replacement you are still bound to your 1 year contract for the subscription. You can continue the monthly payments or opt to pay the $150 early cancellation fee to get out of the contract early. What Lok8u fails to understand is that it's never about the money. It's the principle!!!!! If they looked at my order history, they would have seen that I bought a second one for my mother on 14 Jan 2014 after my initial purchase in December because I believed in the product at one point and before they insinuated that I damaged my own watch.

Frustrating; doesn't work.
So, if you're reading this, then you're probably desperate - desperate to keep your loved one safe, desperate to find a solution to whatever unfortunate problem you have. I read the reviews before purchasing this, but I was desperate to find a solution, so I gave this product a chance. It proved to be an extreme - and costly - disappointment. This product might work for you IF you have daily/constant contact with the person being monitored for charging (every two days or so, in our experience) and to help get the watch on and off or IF you only need to be alerted if a person leaves a geofence. If this is you, the product might work. I would caution you to allow time to set the device up; after a few calls to customer service (who are extremely helpful), I had to return the product to have the handset replaced. If you are a caregiver who does not live with your loved one, then your situation is similar to mine, and you might be out of luck with this product. I bought this product for my mom, who lives several hours away. My mom is in her 80s and likes to take walks. Since she has some memory loss issues, we were looking for a simple device that would alert us to when she left the house and let us know where she was. This seemed like the perfect solution. The problem? It didn't work.Despite the T-mobile map showing that coverage was good to excellent, the product had a difficult time finding a signal (it took over an hour). Even when the device found a signal, any kind of actual location tracking that I tried to do by using the portal was inaccurate (I stood outside for a while, inside, by windows - I tried everything). I pressed the panic button, only to receive an SOS text message with the last place the device had been able to pick up a signal - my house, 30 minutes away from my current location. Trying to track via the web portal using my phone was frustrating since the website isn't very mobile friendly. Since I was testing and wearing the watch myself, this was no big deal. If I had received this text and my mother had been wearing the watch, it would have been very confusing and distressing. After a taking a day off from work - when I planned to visit my mom and get the device set up for her - returning the item, collecting and testing it, calling customer service several times, driving again to set the item up, and having the product on only two days (before my sister pried it off with a fork), I paid the early termination fee and gave up.The only thing more stressful than being a caregiver is trying to rely on products that don't work.

There isn't enough money in the world to buy peace of mind, this device has been a blessing for my family.
Hello everyone,My name is Daniel, and I wanted to share my experience after using Lok8u Freedom for about a year.My father-in-law was diagnosed with Dementia about 4 years ago, the main concern my wife and I had was the fact that he could wander anytime out of the house and something could happen to him. Last summer I found out about the Lok8u Freedom in Amazon, and after doing some digging we decided to give it a try.$100 for the device and $50 a month aren’t enough money to pay for the peace of mind we currently have. We use the RF option when he wants to go out and do some gardening up front, just having that little device help us to keep him in a safe range. You have three options as far as distance goes, of course the device’s battery will dry up faster depending of which option is used, but overall both devices have been working great.I also tested the online tracking option and it works great, in the case of an emergency you can have a lock in the person’s location every two minutes with great accuracy. That’s probably the best feature, knowing that if he wanders, he could be located in a couple of minutes. The watch seems to be sturdy, it has a little pin lock that keeps the watch on place unless you use the little tool that comes with the set to unlock it. Great feature considering that any other device could be left or dropped anywhere by a Dementia patientVery happy with the product, as well as the customer service. Any time I had questions about billing or use of the hardware I didn’t have issues getting fast and helpful answers through the phone or via Facebook/e-mail.Thanks Robin, and thanks Lok8u Freedom.Daniel Vela
