Well made

The nautical sextant exceeded my expectations. A full sized model, in a solid, antique-looking box with green felt lining and metal fittings, the instrument has lenses and filters galore. The only problem is whether to display it openly or keep it in the box and impress people with the surprise. Good value!

I give only three stars because the box it was full of termites, I had to burn it.

When I was in the Navy, I was a Quarter Master, I was the guy that steered the ship and did the Navigation. This was before ANY electronics, I did it with a clock and a sextant. Every sunrise and sunset, I would be taking my star fixes with a sextant in my hand...Another life, long ago....

Super high quality

Not real. Great conversation piece. But, not useable and deceitfully marketed. India brass; not likely German made. Packaged poorly too. Lots of padding inside; but not on the corners where it contacted the box. Which is horribly scratched. It will look good in a nautical motifs. But the horizon glass is not mounted squarely due to a poor cast and not machined to be squared. Keep looking.

A quality collectible. Large, heavy, well made and good materials. It is a model of a German styled astrolabe made in Asia. While it may actually work, it is NOT something I would use for navigation. Rather it a decorative piece representing a bygone era. It's fascinating to hold and look at. It was worth my money. Shipping was surprisingly fast too.

It's a really nice piece. It was delivered quickly. No problems whatsoever.
