Sabotage

The best Sabs live album is included!
You should know what Sabotage is like by now. The remastered album is fine. What makes this package special is the 2 live discs. Recorded in USA 1975. Some of the tracks have appeared on Past Lives. However, in this release they have all been remastered and the sound is huge. Iommi’s guitar dominates and in my opinion is his best live sound on record, much bigger than Live Evil, Reunion and the later live recordings. This is Sabbath at their live peak.

Cheap version is American version, shipped from America
The only difference I can see in the American version is the CD labels show the US warners Records label instead of the plain black label for UK release. Similar as for the Vol 4 release. However, even with shipping costs etc this still half the price of buying UK version. I was a bit wary, thought I might get clobbered by VAT or import tax but it came through no problem, as advertised, just takes a bit longer to ship.

Good box set with a nice selection of recordings
I don't normally write Amazon reviews, but felt compelled after receiving this CD box set. For any Sabbath fan, Sabotage is one of those highly regarded albums that surely goes in the same tier as Master of Reality and Vol. 4.The album is as what you would expect - a classic. The accompanying recordings of the live performance is what makes the box set shine. Sabbath live in the 70s is always a pleasure to listen to, as they haven't quite given up their stoner rock roots yet, often launching into bluesy instrumentals and improvisation to compliment their heavy riffs. The fourth disk is somewhat sparse though. Only a couple of songs that were released in Japan as singles. The book that accompanies the set is a nice hardback, with information on the recording and cultural impact of the album. Some criticisms: the discs come in matt paper sleeves that feel very flimsy. The 2009 remaster of the album had a fold out cover, that had a robust glossy finish. I felt this protected the disc well enough. Something like that here would have been a lot better than the flimsy paper sleeves that the box set offers. Furthermore a dust jacket for the book would have made it that more special, and readable. As it stands, it would easily be worn if it were handled too much.Overall a treat for any Sabbath fan, and well worth the money.

BLACK SABBATH : Sabotage Deluxe Edition 2021
wow repetitive wrist strain or what trying to order this at a decent price,ok folks we will open at £83,no ok its now £109,alright down to £70,mmm i better order now.button pressed, next day £50,what you having a laugh, order cancelled and re ordered, day of release down to £39,Yer Kiddin, my next day delivery showing still to be dispatched and now a waiting time of 2 days cancelled again, ordered at £39. delivery date middle of July,ah well but i've saved plenty, arrived today ya beauty.( and im off work today ) Next 5 hours having a Sabbath day ha ha. What was that noise?,the front door shutting,Mrs Blackwell has had enough and went for a walk.Lets cut to the chase, for many of us this album is our favourite from the Ozzy era(not everyone's i know) but its unfairly and routinely slated via recieved wisdom passed down, trust me this is a 5 star album in its own right, this package is way overpriced ,hence the dropped star.so what do we have wrapped up in the Black Magic box ?Disc 1 : the original album,Andy Pearce remaster,i've bought this many times, this is the best it has sounded,up loud, just wallow in the rifferama of 'Hole in the Sky','Symptom of the Universe etc, allow the proggy 'Megalomania' to wash over you, enjoy the under rated 'Thrill of it All', the majestic Gothic atmosphere created by 'Superstarz' and who doesnt love 'Am i Going Insane (radio) and i defy anyone not to smile at the manic laughter at the end. Last but not least the venemous 'The Writ' Total class from start to finish 5 stars easy.Discs 2/3 Live from the USA 1975,yes once again some of the 'live' tracks have, like those on the previous box sets for 'PARANOID' and 'VOL 4' have been available before, mostly on the 'Past Lives' 2 disc release many moons ago. This however , as far as im aware ,is a full concert and its excellent,of its time certainly with guitar solo's/jams and drum solo' .. but its not a deal breaker for me, never having owned this gig in full before,im very happy with the sound quality .. 4 starsDisc 4 replica of the rare Japanese 7' single, might make sense on the vinyl release but has no place here 0 starsPackaging, decent no more , the poster is of no real substance and the facsimile tour program, while nice, wont be looked at often and many of the photo's are replicated in the hard back book, the book is pretty good although not as good as those in the previous 2 box sets 3 stars.so overall its an average of 4 stars, for the money you would expect better extras, that been said, its ultimately the music that counts and i will enjoy this set,the casual fan may want to wait and see if the prices drop again.

Good... But Not Great.
First of all why are these box sets so expensive. Secondly there is a feeling of diminishing quality with these sets. They are taking the piss stating (although technically true) that it's a four disc set with only two tracks on the fourth disc. The live stuff is good but won't stand up to repeated plays in my opinion. The 'Paraniod' set was great with 'Vol4' just falling short but still interesting. We will see what other Sabbath box sets will bring us in the future but I'm not bowled over by this release.

Live audio potentially sourced from mp3’s
Whilst this cannot be considered 100% fact, it appears the live part of this set may have been sourced from MP3’sThere is a 16khz cut off on most of the live audio, suggesting a lossy source.Just to warn potential buyers

Good live material
Since several of these box sets has seen their price tumble since release, I chose this on the basis of the triple vinyl live inclusion. Much of this has been issued on the Past Lives recording so not much is new. However, I'm becoming increasingly beguiled by the new vinyl issues. My turntable and amplifier is not sensitive enough to detect the subtle changes in mix between the 1975 vinyl and this new one but as I say it was the idea of the triple live vinyl which attracted me. The 7" disc is hardly a big deal. Yet the book and additional photos do enhance the box. As always, just price drop justified the purchase.

Very Nice Set!!
This is a very nice set!! The live show from the 1975 north American tour is actually very common on bootleg markets and is from Asbury Park, NJ 8-06-75(not indicated anywhere on the box set). I have had this show for many years and in just about the same sound quality. I was hoping for a different live show, but I guess this is the best show that is available from this tour! Great album and this set gives it the recognition it deserves!!
