Microwave for 10-15 seconds turn over and 10-15 seconds only ??

I have had good results drying one 50 Gram Silica Gel Desiccant Packet in a 1000 watt Microwave one minute per side at 80% power. Total two minutes. I flap the bag over halfway. I use a postal scale to first weigh the bag, and a new dry bag weighs 50 gm or 1.8 oz. If the beads have changed color, and the bag weighs 66gm or 2.3 oz it is saturated wet and needs to be regenerated / dried. Be careful, the bag will be very hot!

How many of these packets to use in 18 gal Rubbermaid bins?

Will these work to get funky odors out of a handbag?

I've never had that situation arise. My thought is that no, odors would not be eliminated as they would likely become part of surrounding "stuff" in the container prior to moisture elimination. But what do I know. Try it out for yourself and be sure to let us all know.

Do you microwave these on high or defrost?

I do not microwave them at all, my understanding is that you can microwave them. I have a dehydrator that I use two condition 3-D printer filament. I put those in the dehydrator for hours at a time and recharge them. That is how I do it. So I cannot answer your question regarding microwave recharging.
