Really entertaining (and topical) read
Definitely this author's best book yet. This book is much more topical than it might seem at first, and the story goes in some enjoyably unpredictable directions. A highly recommended page turner.

AMAZING!!! You will love it!!
My second book of 2018 was so good that I read into the wee hours of January 3rd, unable to put it down.Wizardmatch is a fantasy about 12-year-old Lennie, whose family - along with those of her cousins - is summoned back by their grandfather, Mortimer de Pomporromp, to compete for the family’s magical title of Prime Wizard. But her grandfather institutes a new rule that may put magic-loving Lennie’s chances at becoming Prime Wizard in jeopardy. So much to love about this book. Lennie is a great character: Lennie is a feisty risk-taker who stands up for what she believes in. She learns from her mistakes and is a role model for young people. The setting was beautifully descriptive, and the plot was fast-paced and engaging. Most importantly, the allegorical elements woven through the story teach the reader about prejudice and fairness without being preachy, and our kids really need exposure to these topics today.I am thrilled to add this book to my classroom library. It’s out March 6, just when my students will be knee-deep in learning about fantasy. I’ll definitely be sharing this one with them!!

A fun, beautiful read!
WIZARDMATCH by Lauren Magaziner centers around a twelve-year-old girl Lennie Mercado who is a lover of magic. Lennie's grandfather, the Prime Wizard de Pomporromp, is retiring and now each of his grandchildren can compete to become the next wizard. Lennie wants this more than anything, but when there's a new rule that only one sibling of each family can get picked, Lennie's brother, Michael, does instead. This story isn't just about everyone having magic, like invisibility, stretchable arms, coughing up birds, and controlling minds. This book is about sexism, favoritism, and what it means to be someone who may look different than the others.Magaziner does a wonderful job describing the world of this book that you won't want to leave. While reading WIZARDMATCH, you'll feel happy, angry, and sad. You'll be reading and reading and won't realize it's 2 in the morning and you have to sadly put the book down because you have work soon. We all need a Lennie in our life. She's kind, caring, brave, smart, and maybe a little selfish, but who isn't? She fights for who she believes in.Lennie is a great role model for kids to read, and I recommend this novel for anyone who loves magic, action, feeling feels, talking cats, and surprises. After reading the book, you won't help but smile and felt like you earned a friend.
