The Baby Soundscene will need to be plugged in. It does not have a rechargeable battery.

Does this play wave or fire sounds or rain

While the Soundscene does have the ocean and rain sound, it does not have a fire sound. The Dreamcenter and Duet machines both have the ocean sound, rain and campfire sounds.

Can i preset the timer, lights and sound for when my 3 year old wakes that he can hit 1 button and everything is already set?

My 7 month old sons favorite sound/song is twinkle twinkle little star like its the only one he will fall asleep to, ( my mother in law has one too) we play it so much that all we have to do is hit the power button and it instantly plays. Maybe yours will work the same if you only play a certain sound? I'm not positive but it's worth a shot.
