Why does this flop over when i screw it in? it won't stay upright. is it defective or is there something i'm not doing?

No. You did nothing wrong. I think the reason it can't stay upright because the screw is loose. There is a screw on the junction part. You can tighten a little then it will not flop over.

It’s good and works well

Works great for my Panasonic stereo. Signals come through clear and it’s easy to adjust, holds its position well. Do be careful when screwing the adapter piece in or outwards, it could cause the antenna to loosen and flail around. Retightening the adapter piece fixes it. Overall does its job and is good.
