Very effective at cooling
This has been a Godsend during the really hot weather, it produces a LOT of cold air. We have moved it around and it works well everywhere..... except a bedroom. My only complaint would be that the quiet mode isn't quiet at all. There is very little difference between this and the normal low setting. My wish list would be two things. A night time mode that produces a LOT less noise and obviously less cooling output, (I could live with that.) Secondly, I would like to be able to angle the airflow from the unit. The output fins are fixed and point almost straight upwards. I can't think why they have done this, but there must be a reason I suppose? The best way we find to use it is to have it running in the kitchen or hallway and leave the door half open. It produces so much cold air that you can feel it coming into the living room after a few minutes. The output hose is a great idea, it can be pushed down to about half a metre when you want to store it, then it simply springs open to whatever length you need by pulling it apart. There is also a drain hose included, but you don't need it when it is running, it is included to make sure that it is totally empty for storage at the end of the hot season. The unit looks nice and it has a modern feel to it, it doesn't look out of place in the house unlike some other makes. I would definitely recommend it, the cooling is fantastic, it's just a pity it wasn't a bit quieter.

Stopped working after just five weeks
While it worked, this was a perfectly fine AC unit. I admit that I was a little disappointed with how long it took to cool my room, and the length of the hose made it very difficult to reach my windows. It's not particularly quiet, but I didn't really expect it to be. None of this really matters though, as after five weeks the unit powered up briefly for the last time. Delonghi didn't want to consider repairing it and insisted that my only option was to return it to Amazon for a refund or replacement. Given the item was no longer available (and now over £100 more expensive), I had no option but to return it for a refund. Amazon insisted that I needed to box it up (I had unfortunately discarded the original box), and as they couldn't offer me a collection date that worked for me, left it to me to arrange the courier. I have been assured that they will reimburse me the costs incurred to return it, but only time will tell. Disappointed at the short lifespan of the product, I will be avoiding Delonghi in the future.

Really good portable air conditioner!
First off, it’s not silent, but I find the noise quite manageable, I can still hold a conversation in the same room. In comparison to my older portable air conditioner - an Amcor 7000 BTU unit. Its better. Using a basic sound meter app on my phone to measure noise, my old AC was getting about 50 - 53 decibel. The Pinguino however, seems to be a tad quieter. On its sleep setting I get between 47 - 52 decibel measured at the same distance. On its max fan setting its around 54-56 decibel. I am not sure how accurate the app is. If I ever get a sound meter, I will update the review. I would class myself as a heavy sleeper, so it doesn’t bother me much, but I would like to mention that once it gets to the desired temperature on the sleep mode, the compressor stops and starts throughout the night to maintain that temperature, but the compressor doesn’t seem to be as loud as my older AC's compressor. I would have preferred it to be just a constant sound, but nothing is perfect. What I can say, is that it cools the room I am in, faster - Maybe this is to do with the direction the air blows out - pushing the air upwards with a slight forward angle. When testing power usage, this device drew around 880 watts on max AC with the compressor on, according to my power meter plug - I don’t check it all the time, so it could vary. When it’s not in use, but plugged in, it draws 0.2 watts. I have not tried the dehumidifier function, as the humidity level in the room has been okay for me at about 40 - 50%. When leaving the room door open, the device seems to work at lowering the temperature in other rooms adjacent (albeit slower). I would have liked the ability to alter the airflow direction like some other air conditioners. The hose that came with it was also too short for me - I had to order a longer one. The window kit also didn’t fit my window type unfortunately - I have bought a separate window kit that uses adhesive tape and Velcro, which does the job of sealing the window, just fine. The remote control is adequate and has a small screen displaying the AC's current setting. It isn't too fancy and batteries came included. In conclusion, I am happy with the Pinguino and can see myself using it for years to come. It seems like it’s built to a great quality and looks good and performs admirably. Positives -Quieter than my old AC -Power efficient -Different speed settings -Sleep mode -Premium look and feel Negatives -Price is on the dearer side -Compressor stops and starts on sleep mode -No airflow direction adjustment -Quite heavy -Short hose -Doesn’t have a universal window kit. Update 03/07/2024 - Added a video of the transition from Sleep Mode to Max AC to compare the change in noise level. I would like to add that the video makes it sound like it's louder than it actually is.

Does the job well and is not too noisy
Bought this one after trying other portable air con units. They all promised "silence mode", but fell short when you actually try them out. Most sounded like a Tractor when you ran them. This unit is really quite for an air con unit, you can definitely work when keeping the unit 3-4 meters away. I keep my unit in the hallway upstairs and it can easily cool down 4 bedrooms to 22 degrees. Even downstairs gets reasonably cool. I do want to point out that this unit will probably be too noisy to sleep next to.

Amazing for a Year, Then it Broke
For a year, this thing was a lifesaver. Truly amazing unit. It's obviously noisy when the compressor is on (kinda what they do), but it is EASY to sleep through no issue. People are saying it's extremely noisy which unless it's faulty or on some weird surface I have no idea, because it's really not bad at all for a compressor. Looks great, had it connected up to a full window kit. Needed a different one for my different type of window. It kept the fairly large bedroom and even some of the hallway extremely cool and did a fantastic job. Sadly after just over a year. Right before an insanely hot day (of course) it just shut off and was completely without power ever again. Different sockets, plug fuse changed. Nothing. Just totally fried. Amazon arranged for repair thankfully so see how that goes. So overall amazing at its job but be advised...reliability isn't great.

Important for hot days
Easy to use. Cool enough for hot days. Just a bit noisy even though with the quiet mode but acceptable.

So loud and not as effective as desired
It seems it’s just an inherent fact that air conditioners make a lot of noise, so please don’t claim that they’re whisper quiet or have silent running modes! That would only ever apply if the fan alone is running and at minimum speed! When the compressor kicks in it’s REALLY loud! When the compressors switches off, the whole unit judders violently. No way you could have a nice sleep with this running! It does start producing nice cold air very quickly but the air comes out in a really weird couple of directions - partly upwards and forwards and to the right. The cold air cannot go through a doorframe, so as you walk through a doorway, you’ll go from cool to boiling, even in a small space that’s well within the size range of the unit. This is also because the cold air is blown upwards and not forwards. Despite churning out lots of cool air it does seem to struggle to bring the overall room temperature down by much, even after running for many hours. The hose doesn’t help as it gets roasting hot and reheats the room! It’s also way too short so I had to purchase an extension. It certainly helps in the crazy hot weather but I wish I’d tried another air conditioner instead.
A**.
Very nice until it died within a year after only minimal use.
It cools really well, it looks good, and it's quiet. It also stopped working less than a year after purchase despite minimal use (maybe 20 days last year?). I checked and replaced the fuse in the socket, it's not that. Now I can try chasing a repairman, pay a bunch of money, and by then the heatwave will be gone.
