Beautiful Luffa, Family Memories, Tasty Food!
I bought these seeds over a year ago - I just didn't get around to planting them that year. But I did plant this year - 4 seeds - and 2 came up, which is pretty good for older seeds. I think I planted them in April or May, and they grew vigorously, bloomed profusely ... and at first had no fruits. But I just needed patience. I think the earlier blooms were male. In late July, suddenly there was a tiny gourd, the size of my pinkie - and within one week, the size of a turkey leg! Tonight (August 9) I see two more half-grown gourds, and several baby ones. It should be said, there is special meaning to me in these gourds - my dad grew them, and he passed away 29 years ago, and I haven't had them since. Our family uses them as a food. We harvest, cut off the splines, slice the spongy core into very thin cross-sections (1/16 inch), lightly salt the slices and allow the moisture to drain, then coat the slices in flour and pan-fry them. They are delicious, similar to potato chips. I have craved that taste for years now. Thank you so so much for this experience, and the happy way to remember my father.

Germinated fast, and is growing strong, still waiting for mature fruit so Iโll update idc.

Grow well but don't make good loofas
The loofas grew but the skin could not be peeled off so we were not able to use them
