SURAIELEC WiFi Pool Timer, 40 AMP, 1HP 120V, 2HP 240V, ETL Listed

Easy installation, if you have basic electrical skills, and works as advertised. It controls our pool pump via Alexa or our phones, using the Smart Things app. I did have to add a WIFI extender but, no problems with connectivity. Weather proof housing seems to keep it dry. Going on 3 years and no problems. Definitely recommended.

I’ve wired up two of these to two water heaters. They work great so far. One is a vacation home that is unoccupied in the winter, so I was able to set it up to turn on when temps go too low and turn off when temps are high enough, but also have it ignore these instructions if the water heater is already on incase the place is occupied during a cold winter day. If you are not familiar with wiring diagrams then you might want to let someone that knows what they are doing install this device tho. Setting up automation can be a little confusing the first time. In the Smart Life app you have to go to the context menu and select “Tap-to-Run and Automation” to set those up. But when you do find it there are many options and ways to set this up. It could easily be used to automate a pool pump, lights, or any other circuit you might want. Automation can even be used in conjunction with other devices that are linked to the Smart Life app. But if you just want a timer function then that is right at the bottom when you select the device in the app.

I had to use a Wi-Fi extender to connect to my Wi-Fi modem at the other end of the house, but once I did, this works perfectly. I have it integrated in with Alexa and it responds to voice commands readily. The app is a little flaky in that when you create what the app calls a “Scene“, but what Alexa calls a routine, will disappear from the app. But if you just create a new scene and save it, all of a sudden, your old Scenes will all reappear. Just delete the temporary Scene you just created to refresh the list. I’ve tried all of the suggested fixes online of clearing the app cache, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, etc., and the problem persists but the good news is the routine still runs from the cloud, even if it doesn’t show up in the app. This timer saves me a lot of grief being able to turn my pool pump off and on from the comfort of my home. I have no idea why somebody would spend so much more on the more expensive options when this one works perfectly. It also has a convenient on off push button switch in the center of a big dial when you open the cover for manual off on capability. This replaced my mechanical Intermatic wheel timer in a metal box, which worked great but was just a pain having to go outside to make adjustments during different times of the year. Or having to turn the pump on if I had added pool chemicals to recirculate overnight when the pump schedule normally shuts off. My 220V connections to this device were exactly like my old Intermatic connections so electrical hook up was very simple. The schematics they provide in the box explain various electrical connection configurations, which was very helpful. I wish that schematic was included as part of the product picture description since it would’ve answered a lot of questions upfront. The new ABS plastic box is rugged, obviously not as rugged as steel, but no issues or concerns. If you’re switching from the Intermatic to this new box you will need to drill new holes for mounting because the hole positions in the back of this new box do not match the old Intermatic box. Not a big deal.

Works as expected. Straight forward installation and jumper wires were included. Only negative is that both the timer and the device where the app is installed have to be on the same exact WiFi network in order to use the app. I used this for a 240v pool pump. App is straight forward and easy to program the on and off cycles by day and time.

Not sure but neighbor either bought same one or this has some schedule flaws. I will have non-program on off times randomly once a week or so. It works great for the times i need it, that i programmed, but just randomly during day hours turns on all my lights. I will turn them off, and they will turn back on 30 minutes later. If i dont turn them off, they will stay on and not turn off.

My original timer started slipping gears, so it was time for an upgrade. I struggled to decide between another manual switch, a digital switch, or a wireless option, and ultimately decided on this product after lots of research and checking all of my options on Amazon. Installation was straight-forward with one small exception that I will detail at the end. Attaching to my wireless was easy, and the App from the Google Play store is fine. (Very basic, but fine for the purpose of running a pool pump) The quality of the waterproof box and the seals for the conduit are really good and even the latch to open/close the timer is nicely done. My only issue was with the wiring. Supplied in the box are a red wire and a blue wire that serve as jumpers when you hook up your wiring. For my installation, the supplied jumpers are 14 gauge wire while my house wiring is 12 gauge. When you install the jumper along side of your house wiring as indicated in the video and instructions, you cannot tighten the screw hard enough to grab the both wires because of the size difference. The smaller jumper kept slipping out of the connector For me, the simple fix was to go to my garage and snip a couple of pieces of 12 gauge wire from other projects and make my own jumpers. If you have 6 inches of 'extra' wire laying around AND you have house wiring that differs in size from the supplied jumpers, you can get past this easily. If you have ever done any electrical wiring this workaround is about as simple as it gets, but many people shy away from electrical work. If you are confident enough to try this installation, I would expect you could work through this simple issue but it was not something that I expected so I wanted to pass along my findings. I would buy this product again with no hesitation.

Pro tip for these, yes you can switch it over to a metal housing which some codes require. If you do that though you will dramatically decrease the range. I have it set up currently and it's tied into my Google home so I turn the waterfall for my pool on and off remotely, it's so nice! I actually have it on the schedule too where my waterfall comes on everyday from a certain time. You can do that all in the app so it's so nice when it's tied into Google home. Just remember comment if you don't use the plastic housing it comes in which is actually totally fine and realistically should be used, you will dramatically lower the Wi-Fi range. If that's absolutely necessary my advice would be to use some sort of cut out or plastic housing so that it doesn't interfere with the Wi-Fi signal. Most people will be fine just using exactly how it is though!!!

i installed this on my hot water heater circuit. this enables us to shut off the tank if we go away for an extended trip and allows us to turn the tank back on such that when we arrive home, our hot water is available without delay. installation was easy, wifi connection was easy and it is compatible with my existing Smart Life app, minimizing the need for multiple apps to control my devices.

Compact, easy to install and wire.

Works as promised, remotely control our electric water heater when we're away from our home for extended periods. Can't quantify any cost saving yet but we'll see.
