Sillbird Car Robot Building Kit with Remote Control STEM Gifts for Boys 8+

I recently got the Sillbird STEM Robot Building Kit and it’s been a fantastic experience. The building process is engaging and keeps you entertained for hours, making it perfect for kids and even adults who enjoy hands-on projects. One of the best things about this kit is how it combines fun with learning. It helps develop STEM skills like problem-solving, creativity, and basic engineering concepts. Many versions even include remote control or app control features, which makes the finished robot interactive and exciting to use. The instructions are generally easy to follow, and the pieces fit together well. Once built, the robot feels sturdy and performs nicely. My 9-year old son received this robot build from Santa this year and spent two days straight building. Took about 7-8 in total build time and he was able to complete the build by himself minus a few times when he need help putting a couple of pieces together. The one downside is the coding and remote control app is out dated and no longer works but the manual remote works just fine. Would recommend for anyone who likes these type of builds.

While it took a lot of time, once put together it is loads of fun! I’m using it for a summer school class and the kids are loving it!

Got this as a Christmas gift for my 8 year old. She loves robots and she spent most of Christmas morning building it. It's a very challenging build, but one that she accepted. There were a few steps where she wanted help. I gave 3 stars on the Remote because the remote that came with our set was actually broken. It didn't have the batter spring so we couldn't control the completed toy. However, we contact customer support through Amazon and the seller gladly sent us a replacement remote. Very friendly support and shipment was quick despite coming from China during their major lock down end of last year.

We bought this for my 13 year olds birthday. He loves it. It was challenging to out together but he likes the challenge. And it is great because it can be controlled by a remote control or you can download the app on a phone or tablet and it can have some basic programming to control it.

This is very lego-like. Many of the pieces could have come out of the same factory molds. The pieces custom to this kit, however, seemed to have a lower durability. The track if assembled/disassembled more than a time or two won’t stay together any longer. One kit we received had a light missing part of its assembly, and it was also missing a couple other random parts. The pieces are bagged in numbered bags with large numbers, except several of the bags don’t have visible numbers (but if you look very closely those bags are numbered in a tiny part number on the bag). Assembly was ok, certainly not easy but not so difficult that I was frustrated. My almost-first grader was able to assemble most of it with help with some of the assembling and guidance support. A few of the pictures in the instructions are not super clear, but the intended step can usually be inferred. There were a few times I needed to disassemble a sub assembly and snap it to the larger piece in segments. Several of the pieces act like they were never intended to be disassembled (axels, track) so I’d consider this to be a “one time build”.

This is not my first Sillbird product. Previously I have ordered a solar robot kit as well as a Robot Car building kit. This is a Car Robot kit, but it shares a lot of the excellent attributes of the Robot Car kit. This is a 473-piece building kit to construct a car that the user can steer using the provided remote control, the user can control it via the programming interface. The same kit can be used to build two smaller and less complex "robot" cars, but they are far easier and less attractive. Therefore, the rest of the review will focus on the car instead. The pieces are of good quality. They connect well and they fit well together. The colours are rich and deep. All the pieces were present upon opening the package. The build instructions are clear. The build itself is straightforward. Less than a night's worth of fun. However, for younger users, this may take a bit longer. The motors work well and the battery is rechargeable. The car offers the user control over the steering and speed. The remote control is tiny, but it does what it is designed to do. The app, however, is interesting. In some way it is slicker than Lego Mindstorm, but at the same time it is a little less refined. Through a graphical, drag and drop interface, the user can program the movements of the vehicle. So, for those who are interested in learning to code, this is a great introductory tool. If you have a youngster who is interested in kit construction and a bit of coding, this is the toy for them. My rating criteria: 5 stars = Product as described, well designed, well built, and met or exceeded expectations 4 stars = Product as described, has slight design or production flaws, but still a good product overall 3 stars = Product not fully as described, has flaws, and does not meet most expectations 2 stars = Deceptive description or product has major flaws, not recommended for usage 1 star = Product is dangerous, and it should be removed from Amazon.

I have always been interested in building kits and, over the years, have put together hundreds of sets. I have always been impressed with Sillbird kits and have put together many of them and given many as gifts. I saw this Sillbird model of a car that can actually be used as a remote-controlled car, and I wanted to give it a try. The kit arrived very well packaged in a giftable box. It comes with 473 pieces, a remote control, motors and servos for steering and driving, a user manual, and stickers. The pieces are very well made with vibrant colors. They snap together very nicely and hold firmly, very much like the name-brand sets we all know. The user manual is very well made, with lots of pictures, and I would rate the assembly difficulty as medium and appropriate for ages 10 and up. You have a choice to build any of 3 models, including the car and a robot. I personally like the car the best, so that is what I built. Once assembled, you end up with a very cool race car with a remote control. The car has many movable pieces. The doors open, the hood opens, and of course the wheels turn and steer. The car is rechargeable, but the remote does take an AA battery. You can also load an app on your phone and control the car from the app. This is very easy to do and adds some cool features. For example, you can create paths on your phone, and your car will follow the path. This teaches some beginners coding skills. I am very happy with this remote control car building kit. It is well made, fun to assemble, and gives you a real remote control that can be controlled with a remote or an app. The price is very low and great value for your money. I do recommend it.
