Be very wary and please read the entirety of the review
After setting up this starter set, using additionally purchased track, the locomotive ran for a total 0f 15 minutes and stopped. I contacted Piko technical support and after some clarification on the electronical workings of this set, I was advised to purchase a new batter for the hand-held remote. After the trouble and expense of having to drive to town just to purchase a battery and installing said battery, the locomotive will not operate. After completing a thorough diagnosis, checking all electrical connections, checking for voltage and continuity the locomotive still does not operate. I removed all the sets electronics, applied power to the tracks using a 12v lawn mower battery and the locomotive operates. The problem has been isolated to the R/C unit (not the locomotive, I was confused on that at first). I have reached out to Piko technical support a second time and as of the writing of this review. I have not heard back. I can honestly say that at this point it cost just shy of $1200 for the set and extra track. I have a total run time of 15 minutes which equates to $80 per minute. I could not in good conscience recommend this starter set to anyone.

Great Train Set, But Remote Has Connectivity Issues
We needed a new train for around the Christmas tree, and this one is a hit! My son loves it, especially the sound effects, which add a fun touch. However, the remote has some connectivity issues and doesn’t always respond reliably to inputs. We may end up buying an old-fashioned controller to hook to the tracks for more consistent use. Overall, it’s a great set, but the remote could use some improvement.
