A Great Set - Check Your Bags Before Building!
I had the 2003 model of the Space Shuttle growing up, and while I wasn't able to keep it all the way into adulthood, I look back extremely fondly on that set. This set really feels like the spiritual successor to that set, but with current lego building and design techniques. The building experience so far has been a dream. There are definitely some small pieces that require a bit of dexterity to fit, but the average person shouldn't have too much issue with that. They split the set into 17 numbered bags with an 18th, un-numbered bag of several large pieces, and you build in order of the bags. The instruction manual is one giant, 320+ page manual and is fairly easy to read and follow, although there were a couple of steps that I had to really pause and double-take, and then check my work. This is a time-intensive set at just shy of 2400 pieces, but I would not describe the process as monotonous. In fact, with each section, I grow only more and more impressed at the design aptitude of the lego design team, and I could definitely say the design aspect of this set is truly inspiring. As I write this review, I am just shy of halfway into the build. Unforunately, I have had to stop to reach out to Lego on their website because the entirety of bag 8 was missing from my box. I am not docking LEGO points for this because I completely understand that this kind of thing happens and it doesn't take away from my enjoyment of this set so far, but I did want to make a note of that. I have reached out to lego at lego.com/service to get the situation resolved, and will be updating my review once I hear back/it gets resolved. Since this is a brand new set I bought, I shouldn't have any issues that I can think of, but I did notice that they mention that replacements could take 7-10 business days to ship, so be aware of that if you need replacement parts. All in all, with that caveat aside, I can wholeheartedly recommend this LEGO set. Who is this set for? In my opinion, this set is for anyone who is a fan of NASA, space travel history, and is a moderately experienced builder with the time and desk space to put this together. Keep in mind the shuttle itself is decently sized - while definitely dwarfed by the likes of the Star Wars UCS spaceships, it still takes a respectable portion of my dining room table to construct, and will take a good portion of a shelf on my bookshelf al on its own. The Hubble Telescope that comes with it is also no slouch - you can fit it in the cargo bay with the panel arrays removed, But I would say that it takes up a good 7-8 inches in length and a very similar size tall.So yes. If you like Space Shuttles, get this set. Just check to make sure you have all your bags, numbered 1-17 with an 18th un-numbered bag. And if you are missing a bag like I am, reach out to Lego at lego.com/service.

Great package, awesome design ann very fun but a little late.
The only thing I didn't liked was that for the 1st time since I have been buying from Amazon my package arrived late and there was not a lot of details from the carrier. But, now let's talk about the main plate, the Lego Set. Altough I was a little bit concerned about the "free frustration package" my product arrived in excelent condition with the original Lego box as well (I was not sure how basic or generic the frustration free option was and I didn't see any detailed information here) but to my surprise and happiness when I opened the box there it was, in all its glory the original box from Lego with the Shuttlle design.Great quality and I must say my package didn't have any missing pieces, in fact there were some small ones extra (look for the sorting process and packaging of Lego sets on YT, very impressive). 17 plastic bags with all the pieces ordered by construction module. (There are 2 bags labeled "2" with all the necesary parts just in case you may think there are several parts missings as I tought in the beginning)Step by step instructions very easy to follow. I spent around 3 and half nights assembling it (working adult here) and it was very fun process, discovering all the details and easter eggs.I would definetly recommend it!

Enjoy The Build
As an avid Lego builder, I've been asking to get this set as a Christmas present for a couple of years, but never got it under the tree. So, this year I decided to get it for myself. When I ordered it, Amazon must have just run out of stock and I was informed it was going to be a five week delay in delivery.I was notified after two and a half weeks that my order shipped, so I was happy about that. My only problem with the delivery was that the shipment was delivered with shipping box open and the product box had been opened as well at some point. My main concern was that pieces would be missing and I would have to return the set. Checking each bag for holes found none and checking the bags against the instructions, I found all were there. Time to get ready to build! This set is listed as an expert set, but it really didn't seem to be an actual build at that level. It may just be due to the number of pieces used in the set's construction and the amount of smaller pieces.I managed to get the set started on my own before my 11 year old son joined in on the build. We took our time, completing one or two bags a night. There were 18 total bags within this set, so we managed to complete the build in a week and a half at a relaxed pace. The set includes the shuttle as well as the Hubble Telescope as well. The landing gear set up was kind of interesting how they incorporated it so all three gears can be deployed at the same time through concealed mechanism as well ss being able to maneuver the wing flaps by a hidden control. It's a great set to add to mine and my son's collection. The build is not really that difficult, but it does take a while to complete with the amount of pieces.I highly recommend this set, especially if you are a builder of the space sets.Enjoy the build!

I loved this build
My daughter and I used to pick a day around Christmas and do a build of something (usually Lego Architect Series) as a father/daughter day. The Space Shuttle Discovery was my favorite build I have ever done. Displayed proudly with the Hubble Telescope, Saturn V and the ISS... If you are even slightly a fan of NASA, I highly recommend this build. It;s truly an icon of our past space history and the detail this piece has is awesome, with working landing gear and rudders, as well as the cargo department that can store the Hubble or you can have it displayed next to the piece separately.
