Q: So is this advertised as a total of 500 plates for 12.99

Wow, so reading is important. 50, yes, as advertised. It doesn't say 500.

Q: Ae these made in the USA?

Not any more. They used to manufacture then in California but now in Asia which dramatically raised the carbon footrprint when they ship them to the States (I have some older packages from a case I bought). Not only that, but they have removed and closed all customer contact information and become user unfriendly.
