designed to be a consumable and not serviceable
I have an On-Q cabinet with some routers and other powered equipment that I would like on UPS and surge protected. This is one of the few (only?) items to perform this function and be thin enough with the plugs in the right location, to permit the cabinet to close.Unfortunately, the unit is designed to be a consumable and not serviceable. I bought one of the units in late 2016. At some point, probably in 2018 or 2019, it failed to deliver its UPS function, and because of the situation, I just moved everything over to a nearby UPS, and then to my regret, forgot about it.Recently, I decided to clean up the cabinet so I could close it during normal operation, and I discovered it was still plugged in, but nothing was plugged into it. I had this vague recollection it didn't work, but I decided to plug a few things into it and see what happened. When it lost wall power, the green light went off and all the devices plugged into it went off.The unit is sealed with an anti-tamper sticker, but because it was 3.5 years old, I decided to open it and install a new battery. However, after I let the new battery sit charging overnight, the UPS function still failed. Then I contacted Tripp Lite support. After the unit is out of warranty, they recommend third party battery replacement. Tripp Lite does not service units and does not sell spare parts. I thought I had seen a Reddit or something about others with problems with the 2016-made units, but I cannot locate those stories now.I have used Tripp Lite warranty replacement for one other failed unit when in warranty. Every UPS I have is Tripp Lite and they are easy to pop replacement batteries into. But, not this unit. You have to break the seal, and you'll probably take out the shelf screws too the first time you replace the battery. So, if you feel compelled to purchase this Tripp Lite unit, I recommend a few things. 1. Buy a simple surge protector to plug it into. You might as well have a $12 surge protector take a few of the power hits upstream of this $200 device. I prefer the one that is made for refrigerators as a brown-out safety because it can handle up to 1800 watts, and the brown-out safety won't unduly stress the UPS. 2. Buy an extended warranty from a company like Asurion. With most equipment, I don't consider this as worth it because way down the line it's probably cheaper to just repair, or there has been so much technical innovation in the field you no longer care that much about the failed device. However, because repair is impossible, and I honestly haven't seen much difference in features for "UPS thin enough to fit into an On-Q cabinet" in the last four years, it's probably a better bet. 3. Enter into your calendar system some appointments a few years into the future to give you about a month warning before the warranty expiration of the Tripp Lite warranty, and the warranty expiration of the extended warranty if you got one. When the appointments arrive, make sure you stress test the UPS and see whether it can still carry the load. If you require a warranty replacement at this time, and you receive one, you will probably double the life of the unit.

Sent a refurbished unit
Bought directly from Amazon and was sent a refurbished unit loosely thrown into the shipping box without the product box to hold it together. Did not turn on. Can only assume battery is DOA. Looks like Amazon shipped me the same unit returned from the other person to leave a bad review.Ended up returning and ordering from a supplier that has it shipped directly from the manufacturer. That one was properly packed and turns on right away. Good battery.

UPDATED/UNIT REPLACED-Great service, fits perfectly in OnQ enclosure, original unit defective but being replaced by Tripp Lite.
SEE UPDATES AT BOTTOMI bought this unit to install in an OnQ enclosure in our new house. The unit fits perfectly in our enclosure and I have our router (Pace 5268AC) and swtich (Netgear 16 port gigabit switch - unmanaged) plugged into the unit.Pros - Form factor, unit fits perfectly and is a fairly intelligent design with the placement of outlets etc. DC power connectivity. I haven't used this yet but I will probably configure a small case fan to circulate air at some point in prep for some other devices occupying the enclosure.Cons - $$$ very pricey for the function this unit performs. You're absolutely paying for the form factor/niche use. So far, the unit has been disappointing from a reliability perspective. After 3 months, the battery has failed. Tripp Lite is sending me a new unit and I will update my review based on how that performs.Tripp Lite's customer service group has been absolutely ACES to work with so far. If it wasn't for their reputation of quality devices and great service, I would've avoided this product on cost alone. That said, they really do stand behind their products. Hopefully my broken unit is just an old stock unit and not indicative of the future unit. I'll share my experiences with that one after I've received it and set it up.**UPDATE - As stated above, the original unit failed and Tripp Lite sent a replacement.....the replacement unit also failed. Ironically, both units that failed had serial numbers within 100 numbers of each other. Assuming they use a numerically sequential serial number methodology, this might represent a QA issue with the manufacturing process. When I called Tripp Lite to report the second unit had also failed, they were extremely apologetic and courteous. They sent another unit out and I had it in two days. The first thing I did was check the serial numbers, this unite was several hundred numbers "newer" so I had optimism. After having the unit plugged in and set up for over 24 hours, I tested the enclosure power loss scenario by throwing the breaker to the utility room where it's located. The unit worked like a champ and actually exceeded the stated power backup duration projection by over 100%. The switch and router plugged into the unit draw enough power to drain the unit within an hour according to Tripp Lite's projection on their website. Mine stayed up for well over two hours! I don't know how long it would stay running as I had to turn the breaker back on before leaving the house. Simply put, I ran out of time!I will say, that the combined price and and reliability issue do bother me. Enough that I can never give this product 5 stars. That said, it's worth repeating how absolutely FANTASTIC Tripp Lite's service has been. I wish I never had to learn about this, but having gone through it, I do have complete confidence that they will stand behind their products. I just hope they make improvements to this product over time. While it's certainly a niche item, the form factor and function are highly desirable for anyone building out a media enclosure.Raising to 4 stars based on support and function.

Not very powerful
I bought this to install inside of my structured wiring cabinet. It does a good job for that purpose. This is probably a great unit for lightweight devices such as consumer routers, modems, and stuff like that. I plugged my APC 1U battery backup into this directly (which itself only powers a 24-port POE switch) and basically crashed the Tripp Lite unit.As a result, I now have only those lightweight devices plugged into it. We get short, very small, outages on occasions and I expect this unit to help with that.

Purposely Designed, Successful Product
designed specifically to work within a wall mounted panel, this fits well and delivers well on it objective. The only thing to be mindful of is that it's designed to fit in a corner, and optimally - due to weight and mounting - probably lower left corner of the cabinet. It can be used in other locations (just rotate it accordingly) but for best results and space allocation, the lower left is "more perfect" - so if you can plan the design around that you'll benefit most. But seems to be lasting well, works great, size is good, and its even attractive. I definitely recommend the product.
