Rock Paper Scissors is one of those thrillers that completely pulls you in and doesn’t let go. I absolutely loved this book and tore through it in no time. The setting plays a huge role—the icy cold, snowbound atmosphere feels claustrophobic and unsettling, perfectly mirroring the tension simmering beneath the surface. Alice Feeney uses multiple points of view to great effect, gradually layering the story and keeping you constantly reassessing what you think you know. The pacing is sharp, with short chapters that make it dangerously easy to keep reading “just one more.” What truly elevates the novel, though, is the twist—clever, shocking, and deeply satisfying without feeling gimmicky. The subtle hint of paranormal spookiness adds an eerie edge, heightening the mystery rather than overpowering it. Smart, atmospheric, and brilliantly plotted, this is a standout psychological thriller that fully earns its five stars.

Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A twisted little mystery that kept me guessing till the end. The isolated Scottish setting, the unreliable perspectives, and all those little secrets made this such a fun read. I especially loved how the story slowly makes you question who to trust and what to believe. Some twists I saw coming, but the final reveal still managed to surprise me. Not a perfect 5⭐️ for me, but definitely a book I’d recommend if you enjoy psychological thrillers with an eerie atmosphere, secrets, and plenty of mind games. 🖤

The pacing is slightly slow, but the story line completely makes up for it. So many twists!

I have to start by saying, this was my first book of Feeney, and I cant wait to read more of her books. What a flipping, fabulous thriller! Adam and Amelia take a holiday to their favourite destination, Scotland. A final attempt to save their marriage. Everything works out when Amelia wins a raffle ticket to an old Chapel - turned home. There is a storm, thick layers of snow and a Loch. The Old Chapel seems completely abandoned and isolated, except for a lone cottage not too far. With frozen taps, eerie windows, haunted attic and bell on the roof, it doesn't seem like the most romantic getaway. Will they be able to salvage their marriage? Why does it seem like something more sinister is at play? The narrative alternates between two timelines, that keeps the suspense sizzling. Each character is layered with secrets and ulterior motives. Each chapter ends with a razor sharp cliffhanger. Nothing seems as it is! I couldn't stop flipping the pages to see where the story will take me. Ms. Feeney writes with finesse be it emotional dialogues or the haunting church. She seems to be an ardent fan of 'Stephen King'. There is not a page of dullness in the novel. A truly enjoyable, inspiring read this one. I kept grinning ear to ear and whispered to myself, bring on the twists! For all those who love a good psychological thriller, don't miss this one.

When Adam and Amelia win a weekend away to Scotland, it might be just what their marriage needs. Self-confessed workaholic and screenwriter Adam Wright has lived with face blindness his whole life. He can’t recognize friends or family, or even his own wife. Every anniversary the couple exchange traditional gifts – paper, cotton, pottery, tin – and each year Adam’s wife writes him a letter that she never lets him read. Until now. They both know this weekend will make or break their marriage, but they didn’t randomly win this trip. One of them is lying, and someone doesn’t want them to live happily ever after. I was thinking that this has the potential to be one of the best thrillers I have read till date and I guessed it right. The characters were quite interesting and had a very strong persona which made the story more engrossing as I was always on the edge thinking who is believable and who isn't. The story as a whole was written perfectly as it did leave me with few questions which shows that the author knew the importance of not giving all the answers to the reader by the end and leaving them with something to ponder over. So yeah I am going to ponder over a few things in the coming days and this story is going to take up a large portion of my thinking time for a few days. Also this book can be a great read if you want to come out of a reading slump because the length of the chapters are quite short and also won't take much of your time and energy if you try to finish it quickly.

The story revolves around Adam, Amelia and their dog- Bob, spending their weekend in the Scottish Highlands which is supposed to be a romantic getaway. Their marriage is far from perfect but something feels off from the beginning. Both of them carrying the truth hidden from the other which in turn makes the story more dark. How long can a couple hide secrets within them? It is a journey that explores trust, guilt and deception that can quietly grow in a relationship. The story is not what we think. It is far more than that. After reading this story, i felt completely dark and had this unsettling feeling inside me and makes us question the character’s motives. Those who have a keen interest towards thriller and dark stories, “Rock, paper, scissors” is definitely worth picking up.
