Hoso Fude (thin brush) Jouhin Itachikana Japanese Sumi Calligraphy Brush

Even though it says “kana” right on it, going off the photo, I thought the bristles would be a little shorter and thicker (like a small kaisho brush) so when it arrived I saw it is the same size and shape as a kana brush I recently paid $50 for....and I like this one just as much! It is just as responsive, the bristles stay together, it holds ink well, it’s well balanced and feels good in my hand. It has a different personality than the $50 one, so now I have two kana brushes I love. It doesn’t come with a hanging loop but the soft bamboo core made it easy to attach one. I will definitely recommend this brush for kana.

Like the other reviewers, my brush arrived early. I was immediately pleased with the quality of the brush. As I am a beginner with calligraphy, I have only purchased modestly priced brushes. However, I am a painter so I appreciate good designed brushes. This brush has a nicely light, balanced bamboo body that is sturdy and yet can help produce the most delicate thin lines. It is very responsive and can produce nice strokes. So far I have not noticed any of the hairs falling out (a problem I have have had with other brushes) and they retain the point well. I definitely encourage both painters and calligraphers to purchase this brush.
