Greta Garbo Came to Donegal
O**9
Delicate, underrated gem.
Frank McGuinness' 'Greta Garbo Came to Donegal' is a brave work, daring to insert the large personality that was Ms. Garbo into a highly naturalistic setting and mise-en-scene worthy of Chekhov. Set in 1960's Ireland, the subtle exploration of a family driven to pointless arguing and an Irish woman's concealed sexuality awoken by the arrival of one of the most mysterious stars of the silver screen is one of the most underrated of Frank McGuinness' plays, and it is a great loss that it hasn't attracted attention to warrant more productions.
