Too rough for my cats/sisal unravels
The sisal seems to be too rough and sticky for my cats' claws. They have a hard time pulling their claws out and get stuck. They prefer to scratch my furniture, which offers less resistance. I solved this somewhat by wrapping the post with Ikea velcro-on cat scratching mats, which are more pleasing to my cats' paws. It looks funky, but it does get them to claw the post more and my furniture less. It also saves the sisal on this product, which started unraveling as soon as I took it out of the box.

We didn't have this scratching post very long before the cord panel on one side of the post split open and started to unravel. Now there are all these strings hanging down that I have to trim off because one of my cats chews on them. From the looks of it, the corded panels are only attached at the top and bottom of the post and not glued down to the post itself. Wouldn't buy this again.

Not sturdy enough for large cat
I bought this specifically because I have a really big cat. He normally claws a shelf in the garage, and his marks go up to 40 inches. When I saw the picture of this scratching post, I immediately thought that the base looked too small for the height, but I figured there must be some trick, i.e. metal base plate or something to hold it up. There wasn't. Not only is the base wood, but it's in two pieces, attached with a couple of flimsy nails. The whole thing wobbles ridiculously. I ended up putting a heavy bookshelf on one corner to make it stand up to my cat's weight. The other problem is that the "irresistible sisal fabric" proves to be of no particular interest to my cat. He scratched the thing dutifully a few times, but then went right back and whined at the garage door to get to his shelf. Waste of money on my part.

Quality lacking
I received this post about a year ago as a gift for my 5 kitties as our 2nd post. Right off I could tell it was not as well built as our Ultimate post. The screws holes on the bottom were not perfectly aligned or threaded so my hubby had to help me attach it. As shown the seam of the sisal wrapping is pulling apart. This was evident from the start, as if it was merely glued together. Our GoPet tree had similar flaws, so the lack in quality seems consistent with the brand. I definitely recommend the Ultimate post instead, (shown on the left) after over 3 yrs and 5 kitties frequently abusing it. In pic is our 3rd newer post- Max & Marlow (shown middle).

The cats were using it before I got the base screwed on and my 10 year old cat likes to hop up on it and sit there to look around. The only thing that would have made it perfect would have been if the sisal had been a little better quality. Hopefully this scratching post will last as long as the carpeted one I had. It's wonderful to find something tall enough to allow a big cat like a ragdoll to fully stretch when they are scratching. Most of the posts are too short and not stable. Once I got all the screws in, I found that it is very stable and I don't have to worry about it falling over.

The base is a bit flimsy and the whole thing wobbles a bit. The base arrives folded in half, you unfold it and screw it to the tower. I need to add a bigger heavier plywood base.

Negative: Base isn't thick and sturdy enough. The sisal fabric hadn't been stretched around the wood completely, leaving a small, minute area uncovered. Sisal also hadn't been wrapped tightly enough around tower. One of the balls was not attached and found in the delivery box.Positive: cats like it.Wish I could get a percentage of my money back as I feel this is not a not-up-to-standard product.
