Hooked!
I loved the second book in this series! While I really enjoyed the first book, I feel like this one is even better! Maybe it's because I have the world building and background from the first to really enjoy this installment. But I think I just like our leads much more! Charlotte is awkward but still a badass, I feel like I identified a little bit more with her. And we love an Emma Woodhouse character, are we supposed to like her? I personally always love complex characters like that more! Alex...handsome, pirate, Irish - what more could you want? I really loved that they just hit it off right away and while they still took time to figure out their emotions, I like that trope more than the "let's fight these feelings until the last 10% of the book". I also looooove that we continue with all the same characters from the first book, building on their story, and really giving us some beginning found family vibes (which I am a sucker for!). This book is whimsical, witty, romantic, and hilarious. There were so many times I laughed out loud or could be found with a huge grin on my face while I read. I can't wait to read the third book now! Definitely read this series and in order too! A++

Good book
The second book in the series,it was as entertaining as the first, however a bit slow to start for me. The banter was great and the romance sweet. My favorite line in the book: “God, but he loved that she didn't automatically know how to be normal. He longed to fly her away into a wild sky where she'd have the freedom to be as strange and sensual and indescribably wonderful as she wanted to be.” Alex gave Charlotte the ability to be herself and she gave him a reason to let down his guard.

As good as the first…if not better
I was so excited when this book was finally released! The first book was so entertaining that I was dying to read more by this author. Of course there is always the concern that the next book won’t live up to the first but no need to worry. This one might even be better! We are introduced to engrossing new characters and we get to hear from those with whom we fell in love from the first book. As with WSLS, the book is fun and lighthearted while also having some enjoyable suspense, mystery, and romance. All of which is combined expertly with the wit and humor which I believe makes these books so wonderfully unique. They are intelligent and mature while also being truly fun to read. So difficult to do in this genre without turning into YA. Nothing wrong with YA per se but I’m a mother of 4 in my 30s and can’t really relate to that genre. Ms. Holton has deftly created a series (and has a style of writing in general) that appeals to a wide range of people and interests and it makes for the kind of read that you feel good throughout and even after you’ve finished. Can’t wait for her next book!

Another bonkers magical pirate book!
Favorite Quote: Such an unsubtle use of enchantment was a crime against civilization, even before one counted in the piracy.Story Synopsis: Following the “delightfully bonkers” story of The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels, The League of Gentlewomen Witches continues the world where there are air pirates, and now we add the Wicken League. We learn the story of Charlotte, a powerful witch, who attempts to steal the amulet belonging to Beryl Black and prove her rightful claim to the heir of the Wicken League. In Charlotte’s attempt to steal the amulet, she encounters Alex O’Reilly, an Irish pirate (and friends with Cecelia and Ned from The Wisteria Society). Shenanigans and romance ensue as witches and pirates are sworn enemies. Why does this book beguile? Much like its predecessor, The League of Gentlewoman Witches is a fun romance full of adventure and strong characters. It was a great book to lead into the new year and start with something fun, flirty, and fierce.

Excellent Sequel...
Charlotte is a gentlewoman. It's not only about the manners, but her very particular skills. Any sort of problem can be caressed, unstressed, and finessed by her precise application of magic. The same is true of every gentlewoman of The League of Gentlewomen Witches. Those bloody pirate ladies over in the Wisteria Society can fly their silly houses around all day long and yell "Arrrr!" as much as they please, but that doesn't make them properly civilized. They certainly aren't going to properly protect the amulet of Black Beryl, a powerful and dangerous artifact that has resurfaced. Unfortunately for Charlotte, she has no choice but to engage in an unwilling alliance with Alex, a pirate of no manners at all. They're both good at sleight of hand, but as it soon turns out, their hearts might need as much protection as the artifact they seek!I was a very delighted fan of The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels, so when I discovered the opportunity to gallivant once more in its world, and this time with gentlewomen, I immediately prepared my petticoat for perusal, peril, and a proper good time. Of course, these gentlewomen are really gentlewicca, using magic for serious matters rather than amusement. I was really delighted at the juxtaposition of Charlotte's good sense and Alex's devil-may-care attitude. With both of them enemies that should be at each other's throats, there was no end of banter, barbs, and bluster, all sprinkled with plenty of Victorian references that are sure to satisfy even the most Shakespearian of hearts.Of course, their mutual goal, and inability to escape the other's presence, is capable of working its own magic, untangling somewhat the snags within their hearts, opening them to a rather different, and definitely improper, form of partnership. The League of Gentlewomen Witches is a wondrous, whimsical, wiccan follow-up to its flying house pirate predecessor, building upon this magical, Victorian-soaked world deftly and capably. Recommended for fans of Jane Austen, Shakespeare, flying houses, adept women, deft magic, and unlikely romances in troubled times.

A fun read about witches and pirates
This was a funny, entertaining story about true love a la Rome and Juliet, but lighthearted and with a much happier ending!

Wanted to like this
I was looking forward to this one. The premise is charming, and the story not without humour. But the text could have used a firmer edit — there are grammatical and spelling errors which are disappointing and somewhat unprofessional. Can’t really recommend this book, sadly.

Tremendous fun!
Stylish dialogue, excellent period references engaging characters, delightfully daft ideas, what more could one want! A satisfying piece of period pastiche.
