Great image quality, but ecosystem lock-in required
Why I ordered this item: My old dome cameras were starting to look real jacked up and I wanted something with better night vision for the side of my house. I run a full UniFi setup already so adding these to the Protect app was an easy call. Likes: * Video quality during the day is crazy good. I can zoom in on my driveway and read a license plate without much grain. * The infrared kicks on at night and I can see raccoons walking across my yard clear as day, black and white but sharp. * These are weatherproof. I've got one mounted under an eave getting rained on sideways and it hasn't blinked. * Install was zippy once I ran the ethernet. Mount the bracket, plug in the PoE cable, adopt it in the app. Done in a few minutes each. * The white housing matches my trim so it disappears against the wall instead of standing out. No likes: * You need a UniFi console or NVR for these to do anything. If you don't already have one, that's an extra couple hundred bucks on top of this. * The included mount is kind of flimsy plastic. I'd want something beefier for a camera pointed at my driveway. * Field of view is narrower than I want for covering a whole backyard. I'll probably need a fourth camera for full coverage. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes Final thoughts: These are for people already bought into the Ubiquiti ecosystem, not a standalone plug and play cam. The image quality both day and night is the whole reason to get these. If you don't have a console already, factor that cost in before you buy.
